About Ashmolean Dining Room

A celebration of food and wine alongside art and culture.

The Ashmolean Dining Room provides the spectacular setting for Oxford's first and finest rooftop restaurant.

We have a fantastic new menu taking the food back to a good, hearty British feel with a European twist. As the subject of gastronomy dictates, we have dedicated this menu to the art of good eating with introductions of rabbit and monkfish tail as well as treating you to a sublime bream dish and lamb rump to die for. Vegetarians will be left drooling for our pearl barley dish and cauliflower salad. And, what better way to top it off, but with our Paris Brest dessert.

Ingredients are fresh and seasonal and we use many local Oxfordshire suppliers to bring the best quality to you. Our wine list is broad with 50 handpicked wines from around the world.

Lunch in the Ashmolean Dining Room is a delightful experience. Windows on three sides make the room light and bright. The views over Oxford are pleasant but not stunning. The service was pleasant, efficient and unhurried.

The spicy soft shell crab starter was an expensive mistake but the main courses were delicious. We resisted the puddings but we enjoyed the coffee. Would have liked a French red wine.

We had a marvellous al fresco lunch on the roof of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. It was a beautifully warm March lunchtime, we shared some cold meats and bread,my risotto was great as were the fish dishes and all washed down with a cold rereshing rose and a good cup of coffee to end. A great combination of food, location and culture.

An unseasonably warm February afternoon in Oxford? May I recommend the Ashmolean Dining Room for afternoon tea. Everything seemed freshly made. This was evidenced by a slight delay for the scones and they were cooling. I would suggest you book it did fill up very quickly.

Food good, service good, atmosphere a bit to cafe whereas the food standard more 'restaurant' Very busy

The Dining Room has a great location at the top of the Ashmolean with a roof terrace that would be lovely in the summer. Service for Saturday lunch was friendly but slow. My husband ordered seafood platter only to be presented with a mound of prawns and some smoked salmon. When we complained they agreed they had 'run out of herring'. Why not tell us before giving us an incomplete dish? They did reimburse us, but it was odd behaviour. Sole meuniere was ok, but mean portion. Wouldn't rush back.

Ashmolean Dining Room in Oxford. ate early on a Saturday evening. Pleasant welcome and efficient service. The room was rather cool for early December. Food was very competant but not particularly memorable. Would return if n the area but not go out of my way.

Fantastic place for afternoon tea. Cream tea for £6.50 is great value for such a beautiful restaurant and location.

Food is good, service inattentive. Great location. Expensive.

Always a pleasure to go to the Ashmolean Dining Room in Oxford. Spectacular setting and venue. You can refresh yourself in between Minoan artifacts and other archeological rarities. Great service. I would prefer a larger menu selection; but a least what is on offer is all delicious.

We went to the Ashmolean Dining Room on a Sunday to celebrate my birthday. The choice was good including a sunday lunch option. Missed the tapas selections that remembered from a previous visit.

Great location, lovely food, delicious wine but the service is APPALLING. The staff are charming but badly organised. We very much enjoyed the bream and the monkfish saltimbocca, but the only vegetable on offer was rocket. Odd when the mains are so seasonal. Would recommend on the basis of the location and food, especially if you want to spend longer viewing the glories of the museum, but be prepared to wait a good half hour between sitting down and being given something to eat.

Good, efficient staff; plain dining room but perhaps more interesting on a sunny day when one can eat outside. Food ok - Greek theme when we were there. Choice a bit limited but large helpings if satisfying hunger most important criterion. Gremolata sauce with sea bass had unbelievable amount of pongy garlic in it so that those on nearby tables had to hold handkerchiefs to their faces!

A lovely meal at the Ashmolean Dining Room in Oxford. The setting and ambiance is perfect there is seating both inside and out and deckchairs for a casual drink. The menu was small and set to a Greek theme, but the afternoon tea also looked good. The food was beautifully cooked and presented and the portions plentiful. The staff were attentive. Altogether a wonderful evening

Ashmolean was a mixed experience, we were 2 for lunch. They firstly hadnt got a record of our booking, the service was very slow despite it being 2.30pm. The setting and ambience was spot on, the food a short, mostly greek menu but tasty nonetheless. I have to admit, I have had better, however would go again to try for dinner and perhaps another lunch. The toilets were very very poor!

Good and interesting menu. A real gem in Oxford, and very nice view of the city.

Very much enjoyed the Ashmolean, Oxford. Excellent food, Greek set menu for £20, very good value. Service also excellent. Good atmosphere, roof terrace a really nice feature.
