About Bistro 1847

Bistro 1847 is the only dedicated vegetarian restaurant in Manchester’s city centre, and you’ll find it located on Mosley Street with its entrance around the corner opposite the Manchester Art Gallery on Booth Street. Close to all of the city’s star attractions, Bistro 1847 is loved by local herbivores and their meat-loving friends alike, and the gourmet menu is filled with fresh and robust dishes that offer something different from your average veggie risottos and nut roasts. Open Wednesdays through to Sundays, the restaurant is run by Wendy and Damien who have both been vegetarian for over 20 years apiece. Passionate about bringing something new to the vegetarian table, they have come up with dishes including beer battered haloumi served with sweet potato chips, and delicious white bean and sundried tomato fritters. Bistro 1847's pudding menu also includes treats like poached apricots served with yoghurt and pistachio sponge cake.

Great food and very good value and we'll certainly be going back.

To be slightly picky - the staff should take a few lessons in serving wine (the bottle should be presented to the guest before opening at the table and then ask the guest if they wish to taste the wine before being poured out for all guests). Our bottle was brought to the table opened (!) and then poured out without allowing for tasting and not poured very well.

I visited Bistro 1847 Manchester on a very quiet and cold Thursday evening. However, the service was warm and welcoming in a most elegant restaurant. Overall the food was delicious - fresh, hot and well presented. We were not rushed in any way and it was a delightful evening. I will definitely return.

bistro 1847 was welcoming and the menu had plenty of enticing choices

Nice, cosy venue. Food was very good although portion sizes were a bit random - eg the soup portion was tiny yet the dessert cheese selection was far too big for one person. Service was friendly and attentive but too quick - as if they needed the table back. Would definitely go back.

Went to Bistro 1847 on Saturday night. Although started off quiet soon filled up, obviously popular. Good atmosphere and attentive staff. Felt the mains were a bit pricey for what you actually got.

Lovely little bistro with high ceilings, warm decor and good service. Chestnut and shallot pie was lovely, as were trio filo parcel starters. Thank you for a relaxing Sunday lunch.

We enjoyed a delightful meal at Bistro 1847 in Manchester. The service was excellent also.

Bistro1847 Manchester - great food, terrible service. It took over 50 minutes for our first course to arrive and when it did we had to send the souffle back as the top was burnt. To be fair it was replaced with no query and when the replacement arrived they took it off the bill but it was such a shame about the wait as the food was wonderful when we finally got it! Go, if you have a very leisurely evening in mind.

Went to Bistro 1847 in Manchester for their taster menu (£15 for sharing starter, any main and a glass of wine or a beer). Food all lovely and the place has a great feel to it. We both particularly loved the pudding - rose petal infused white chocolate pot with pistachio cookies - absolutely gorgeous!

At last, a decent veggie option in the city centre! A very good meal and 85% full on a wet Friday night.

The wine list is a little supermarket-ish and the ventilation needs improving as the room does smell quite strongly of cooking.

Food and service were extremely good considering it was a 1 and 1/2 man show front of house, definitely recommended.
