About Door 74

Just a few seconds stroll from The Plain on Oxford’s famous and central Cowley Road, Door 74 is the perfect European bistro with all the charm one would expect. With its modern boho styling, all chichi chandeliers and verdant palms, eclectic art and old fireplaces, Door 74 is extremely well suited to the Oxford crowd; the moneyed students and the yummy mummies, the bookish bohemians and the fashionable foodies. Thumbing its nose at the numerous nearby chains with their conveyor belt food and characterless interiors, Door 74 is an escape from the boring and the bland, offering an ever changing and original chalkboard menu featuring home-cooked dishes that conjure up flavours and aromas in the diner’s mind before they even reach the table. Expect plenty of Mediterranean inspiration as well as French brasserie sophistication and even a touch of Scandinavian freshness too. Of particular note are the kitchen’s absolutely unmissable desserts – divine!

Initially we were the only people in the restaurant, which was a pity as it was 7.00 p.m. on a Saturday night. We were made very welcome, the food was very tasty and we had a lovely time. Door 74 Cowley Road Oxford

We dined at Door 74 in Oxford on a Saturday evening, when the place was packed. This is a relatively small restaurant with a kind of cosy, bistro atmosphere. Despite the two waiters having to attend to a lot of tables, we were well looked after. To start with, I chose a chicken liver and chorizo salad. My wife had tiger prawns in a spicy tomato sauce - both very good. For main course, we had sea bream and shank of lamb, also both very good.

Door 74 in Oxford was a surprisingly good venue, though a little rough around the edges.

I wasn't expecting expecting the restaurant to be amazing, but thought it would be a little different to going out in central Oxford. As it happened, the food was great, but the decor and general atmousphere needed a little working on.

But as I said - the food was great.

Door 74 was good but not as good as good as it usually is - maybe a different chef was on last Friday. The puy lentil chicken was good buy they forgot the creme fresh and the wine list could do with a review as some of the wines are a bit ordinary. Champagne by the glass also needs to feature - the Cava is no substitute for the real thing.

We booked Door 74 on the basis of you fine upstanding top tablers. Well give yourself a communal pat on the back! This is well executed cooking. It is not fine dining. There are no over-worked tuna and marmalade tuiles or black pudding foams here. They serve well seasoned well flavoured plates of food. My wife had a very serviceable home made soup for starters and I had pasta. Mains of chicken and lentils / yellow fin tuna were hearty and flavoursome. Solid and tasty.

Door 74 in Oxford was a great place for supper. Interesting menu and cheaper than other options in town.

Door 74 In Oxford is a gem of a place. Brilliant food and service, not as busy as it should be. Go there, it's great. We ate downstairs and had minced lamb in aubergine parcels to start which was divine, and the halumi salad. The mains were puy lentils and chicken, utterly delicious, great for an autumnal evening, and my girlfriend had the lamb with salsa verde. Fabulous with the Malbec. We shared a pudding - an excellent semifreddo and drank half a bottle of pudding wine. £85 with tip. Amazing.

Food is imaginative, uses fresh produce and beautifully cooked. Door 74 has a relaxed feel to the place and service is timely and attentive.Excellent value.

Door 74 in Oxford is a small establishment with a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere. The menu is limited but the food is really lovely with flavours blended with real attention to detail. Very much recommended.

We had dinner at Door 74 in Oxford and the service and food were both very good. We were warned that the food might take a while as they had a large party in but the food came promptly. Bruschetta with sardines and carrot rissoles as starters followed by salmon & haddock fishcakes and a excellent vegetarian pasta dish that my wife had were all very good. Couldn't taste much salmon in the fishcakes and the carrot rissoles were a little disappointing but these are harsh critcisms. Worth a visit.

Door 74, Oxford. Food great, staff also very good. Small quiet venue. Very good for a get together with friends or a romantic night with your partner. Would recommend to friends.

Perfect for a quick sunday lunch. Very casual and friendly efficient service and great food. Would recommend.

The lunchtime set menu at Door 74 is amaziang value with 3 interesting choices for each course. Friendly staff and the restaurant is a surprising gem on the Cowley Rd. Can't wait to find an excuse to visit Oxford again and drop in for a meal. I notice they also have an upstairs to book for large numbers ... must think up an excuse for a party!

Door 74, Oxford is a gorgeous little restaurant with a lovely menu. Food was delicious and service excellent. Would recommend!

Had Lunch here on Friday & had the lunch time deal. I must say, the food was really nice, especially for the money. Would not hesitate to eat here again, if in the area.

When passing through we would normally eat in the centre of Oxford, but thanks to TT we discovered this little gem. Thanks TT.

Small, friendly restobar in bustling Cowley Road. Good burgers.

Excellent evening at Door 74 in Oxford. Found it through Toptable and not disappointed. Friendly welcome and good, tasty, well-cooked and interesting food (although quite limited menu). Slightly cramped table but that was because we turned up with one more person than we had booked for. Would definitely recommend.

I had the lunch 2 course for £7.95 deal at door 74 in Oxford. Great food, great service and a lovely cosy atmosphere.

Ate here last night, we thought the service, food and atmosphere were excellent A slightly more varied menu would have been good but overall a great place to eat!

Door 74 in Oxford's Cowley Road is a pleasant place to eat. The menu was wide-ranging with a good choice of wines by the glass. All our food was interesting, tasty and well-prepared; the service prompt and cheerful; prices very reasonable. I will be back the next time I am in Oxford - my 2 guests, who live there, rather sooner: a good, neighbourhood atmosphere.
