About Mela

A celebration of Indian cuisine right in the centre of bustling London, Mela restaurant has a unique take on the Indian restaurant from start to finish. In a part of the capital that’s near Covent Garden and right on Shaftesbury Avenue, an area usually associated with Chinese food, Mela is a stand-out for style, taste and service. The airy dining room, full of natural light, is decorated in a completely contemporary manner, warm colours and simple shapes giving a clean, comfortable feel. Good service is a high priority at Mela where you’ll be greeted warmly and treated like a VIP throughout your visit. From the foothills of the Himalayas to the warm seas of the coast, Mela reflects the hugely varied and inspiring cuisine of India, opening minds and stomachs to more than your usual tikka masala. Colourful, robust in flavour and evocative of the subcontinent, every dish is prepared with care and great attention to detail.

Just up from Leicester Square station is Mela, a happy and eager to please Indian restaurant which had set my tastebuds tingling in anticipation for the food to follow.

The food was OK, but lacked any real flavour or kick that I was expecting. Plus the lime pickle was decidedly hard and had been pre-plated possibly 8 hours prior. I probably wouldn't return as the price was way out for the quality. Brick Lane surpasses, if you want to pay less and have a better curry in my opinion.

Very friendly service, food was excellent and good location for Theatre shows.

Decoration and ambience could be improved, but for convienience, quality of food and friendly service - would definately recommend.

We went for lunch on a bank holiday at Mela in London. We were very welcomed and the staff was very friendly and focused on our needs. All the other diners were indian, which we found was a proof of the authenticity of the indian food being served. It was indeed delicious, full of flavours and definitively freshly made by Indian staff. The restaurant was very clean and colourful. We will definitively go back.

Nice food. Nice staff

great food, great atmosphere. mela on shaftesbury avenue, london

nice kebabs

April last year I went to the Mela on Soho rest. It's a nice place in good lacation but food was not excellent. I have found cling foil in my starter (moussels) and they served wrong main dish for my partner. They offered complimentary icecream after all these situation.

Mela in Central London is a 'gourmet' Indian restaurant offering intersting and delicious dishes. We went after viewing the Hockney exhibiton on a miserable Easter Sunday. our meals cleared the Blues and we had a great time.

A great meal at Mela, Shaftesbury Avenue. The welcome was very friendly, the service was quick and efficient. They brought out special ice-cream desert for my birthday on the house! A lovely evening had by all.

Had a meal at Mela with a friend on Friday night and we really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and very tasty. A good selection for veggie's too! We used the 2 for 1 offer which was good value.

We ate in Mela in Shaftesbury Avenue last night. The staff were patient with us as one of our party took an hour to get their car parked- so we had to wait to order the food. The service and food was faultless- and I would go back again

Mela was once a very good restaurant. I recall many happy and convivial evenings in there in the mid-naughties. The combination of good (and slightly off the curryhouse track) food, reasonable prices and informality were a winner. It is not as good as it used to be, sadly. We had a perfectly acceptable evening, good sized portions, but everything was slightly samey. Like a good local curry place rather than a proper Indian restaurant.

Had a pre-theatre dinner and the staff were very quick and accomodating. Our first time and the food was very nice.

Mela, Shaftesbury Avenue, London - The service was very good, attentive to customers without being overboard. I liked the fact they asked whether we wanted the main served as they cleared away starters or whether we'd like to have a break between. They provided milder versions of 'hot' curries for some of the party. The food was very good.

Went for a pre-theatre meal at Mela in Shaftsbury Avenue. Excellent location for theatre-land. And very good service - quick, friendly and efficient. The food was good, too. Not a vast menu, but some interesting variations on the normal Indian theme. Recommended.

great meal and and great price - friendly staff but it took about 20 mins just to get the bill!

evertything else great though and will head there again. We paid £20 per head for starter main, nans service and drinks.

Mela was a great place for a meal with friends in town. The food was tasty and good value with the top table deal.

Mela - Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho.

Dined here for two people on a busy Saturday afternoon. Took around 15 minutes to seat us and our waiter didnt seem very interested in our order. Food satisfactory - not amazing - standard Indian cuisine.

Packed full of tourists and very busy - expensive if no top table offer. Wouldn't dine here again.

We booked for 2 for my birthday at Mela Restaurant in Shaftesbury Avenue and had a special offer buy one get one free ! A warm welcome by friendly restaurant owner who came a few times to make sure we were satisfied. Service was really nice and food was generously served and excellent! Definitely a restaurant to recommend as I saw a few Indian people eating there as well.

Very friendly service, delicious food and a warm, vibrant atmosphere. We very much enjoyed our visit last night.
