About Sitar

Established since 1985, Sitar – which is located on The Strand - has earned countless accolades for its classic curries. Close to all of London's famous landmarks such as the River Thames, the National Portrait Gallery and Covent Garden, Sitar is the favourite haunt of city lawyers, theatre-goers and business types who stop by for working lunches or early evening meals. Decorated with plush navy carpets and crisp white linens, the restaurant has been recognised by the British Curry Awards and signature dishes include the Goan style spiced scallops, squid and mussels deep fried and simmered in a sauce made from onions, coconut cream, curry leaves and mustard; and the Gosht a la Nilgiri – lamb simmered with spinach paste, garlic, chillies and mint.

used to think their food was special enough to justify the higher prices and lack of TT offer, but our recent visit was perfectly average and not special in any way. I wonder if the chef has changed? portions seemed less generous and the dishes were certainly less subtle than in the past. shame

Went here before going to a show, so quite early at 6pm. Pleased to see a few people already sitting in the restaurant. Service all good and quick, nice selection of food. Would go there again.

Sitar on the Strand was a very smart restaurant, good service and excellent food. Only slight surprise was a somewhat larger bill than expected, but a little over £100 for 4 people with a bottle of wine in the centre of London isn't bad, but does put this (in my opinion) in the 'expensive Indian' catergory. A good evening though.

a mixed bag really , my daughter's chicken tikka masala was very good ..i was recomended to have the tiger prawns served in a coconut shell which was looked very good but was a little bland ..I know you pay a premium due to its location on the Strand but £19 for a main dish is a little steep ..the service was very friendly ...

Good value Indian food

we always enjoy the quality of food here. the dishes are a little more interesting than your usual local Indian restaurant and even though the prices are a bit higher we like to come here for a treat.

Sitar -- a good experience. Lots of 'new' indian dishes, mainly fish, shellfish from Goa. Nice to have a change of menu. Fish dishes not cheap but good value, meat & vegetable dishes in what I would call a normal price range.

All members of party very much enjoyed a fantastic meal. Particularly recommend the Goan Fish Curry. Service was prompt and polite, and advice on dishes was most welcomed.

Enjoyed some decent Indian food. The breads were particularly good. Only glitch with service was forgetting to bring our poppadoms & chutnies. A little more expensive than some of the other Indian restaurants in Covent Garden area. Worth a visit.

The Sitar in the Strand had a good choice of fish dishes along with the standard selection of traditional choices. Service seemed very slow and they had certainly taken their time in preparing the starters with very decorative designs via the sauces. Lamb samosa was good but fairly small, Goan fish main was very good and there was more than enough rice to keep me happy. Bit shabby downstairs to the loo's and overall very expensive for what was offered. Food Good but too pricey.

Service was a bit slow (we were served after several tables who came in after us), but food was good and well cooked. Good for an after-work curry and in a really convenient central location.

I often go to the Sitar in Aldwych London. I have given low Ambience rating for this occasion , because last night on both sides of me there were very loud clients.

Great value and friendly as always

Sitar London great starter... very average place nothing to write home about

Dinner at Sitar was beautifully presented and tasty, with the staff well used to acommodating requests for speedy turnarounds. A good variety of food on the menu - with everything being cooked to a much higher standard than your average 'Indian'.

Lunch at Sitar was ok. The service was slow and I had to keep chasing for things. The food was average nothing special and quite expensive £8.95 for a starter.

A hidden gem. The food is just fantastic. Can't recommend it enough.

Excellent as usual. Great value and friendly staff.

THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT!! tHE SERVICE WAS GREAT TOO HOWEVER SOME OF THE ITEMS WERE A LITTLE PRIZEY!!

Food was excellent, and it is a great location on the strand. Service was good overall, but variable. Most of the waiters were happy to serve us but one of them didn't seem to be having a good day... Food came quickly and was nice and hot, the Samosa's were excellent. We thought the price reflected the location and the quality of the food - We were happy to pay. It was a nice snug curry house and we will be back!
