About The Archduke

Set on the South Bank, moments from world-famous London attractions like the IMAX, London Eye and Royal Festival Hall, The Archduke restaurant and wine bar is a local landmark in itself, set in to the old railway arches surrounding Waterloo Station. The first London restaurant to open in this area, The Archduke has gone through several incarnations since 1979 but is still as fresh as ever with sleek, simple furniture set against the old bare brick walls and contemporary glass frontage. Jazz music gently floats through speakers, performed six nights a week live in the bar, as diners indulge in comforting modern European cuisine including excellent steaks (it’s owned by the steakhouse Black and Blue group) and simple roast chicken served with your choice of sides dishes. The view of the London Eye from the terrace is spectacular and worth lingering over.

Excellent Service and good food. Nice vegetarian options.

We have been eating there for years and it's had a few ups and downs, but not it's definitely on an UP. Food is good and honest and waiters very friendly. Musical accompanyment not always wonderful, but they are trying hard.

The Archduke, South bank, London. A weekday lunch before the theatre. Very nice burger and chips. Pudding below par - heavy lemon tart and bland sticky toffee pudding. Variable service. We booked for 12.00. The place was empty. The woman running the main restaurant bit didn't want to stop polishing glasses so we were kept waiting. Knowing we didn't have lots of time, another waitress found us a table in another part of the restaurant. She was charming and helpful. Why take the booking for 12?

The Archduke is very convenient for the South Bank attractions. The conversion of a railway arch has been stylishly achieved although the rumbling of trains overhead is a small distraction. Our fillet steaks were outstanding. The Tempranillo wine was reasonably priced and thoroughly acceptable. Other wines were somewhat pricy. Service was good. a good alternative to Chez Gerard (when that reopens).

The Archduke, South Bank, London, as usual, provided exzcellent service, value for money and perfectly-prepared food. The set lunch menu offered considerable range and the salmon and crayfish risott was exceptional.

Had heard good things about the food and was not disappointed. Excellent service, our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the wines. Very tasty steaks and delicious brownie. Recommended

As usual, the Archduke was a very convenient place to eat before going to the National Theatre. I enjoyed the sea trout and risotto, my friend liked her lamb, we both found the apple pie and cream delicious. As I've said before, the menu should contain the prices of small glasses of wine, which the restaurant does indeed serve. Our other criticism is that it became very noisy, possibly because of the piano player, but also because of the large group eating nearby. Service very efficient.

Disappointed with the changes which have taken place as a result of the new ownership. I liked it as It was, although the level of food and service has probably improved !

Nice location for a bank holiday lunch - set menu of 2 courses for £16 or 3 courses for £20 was good value.

Archduke, South Bank, London. Pre theatre menu, 3 courses for £20 - limited but sufficient choice. Smoked salmon terrine starter was misdescribed - it was just minced smoked salmon but was still very nice. Main course of lamb shoulder rather fatty but my friend's serving was much leaner, so hit and miss. Dessert of apple pie was pure supermarket. Overall, acceptable and would go again as service was prompt and attentive, but would only go for 2 courses. Choice of beer limited, no draft.

ARchduke was as usual reliable but this time menu choice was a bit uninspiring. Salmon terrine was a disappointment, savoury tart was good however. Mains were fine and substantial. the Loire white was underwhelming and it would be good to have the choice of smaller glasses. Still one of the best places for South Bank pre theatre

Great value perfect for pre theatre

The Archduke Waterloo London - excellent on all counts - we were at a recoding of Have I Got News For You which finished late - no worries everything was perfect

Always lively and in a great location, the Archdukes, by Waterloo station was as good as always last night. Service was prompt, efficient and pleasant and the food was lovely. You can get burgers cooked rare which shows they make their own and mine was juicy and delicious!

The Archduke, Southbank, London is a great place to dine. Good food and a nice atmosphere. I would recommend eating after 8pm as the live music doesn't start til after then, you'll ensure you get the most out of your evening.

The Archduke, Waterloo. Delicious wholesome food and a funky atmosphere. Had a yummy sirloin steak with bernaise sauce. A test of a good restaurant is their Bernaise and this was excellent. My friend had the burger and I was told it was delicious.

Excellent location for what we needed at The Archduke. Quiet and very good for a business meeting over lunch.

Archduke South Bank Very busy didn't seem too sure that we had booked but found a table straight away, salad very good with good amount of chicken. Service efficient and polite.

Excellent food and brilliant atmosphere, very good night out

Another excellent dining experience at The Archduke! It was good to see changes on the set menu this time as well. Very prompt service (ideal for pre-concert dining), and my waitress was exceptionally friendly and courteous.
