About The Basement

The Basement Bar and Restaurant is a genuine Edinburgh institution, long favoured by locals and found by savvy travellers. Known for its good quality, imaginative food, carefully chosen drinks list and home-spun cocktails, served by knowledgeable staff in eclectic surroundings. It is advisable to book a table any day of the week as tables always seem to be busy in the separate restaurant area, however the same menu is served throughout the bar where a space can usually be found after a short wait. Certain dishes on the menu change every day from Monday to Friday, the chefs taking advantage of supplier"s specials and seasonal produce to create impossibly priced restaurant quality food. The rest of the menu is made up of staples such as rump and merlot pie, grolsch battered sea bass, or the famous house chilli, nachos and burritos that have sated many a hunger over the past 15 years. Saturday and Sunday the menu takes on a more Mexican theme adding dishes such as sizzling fajitas.

Really great food at a really great price!

Great lunch at the Basement Edinburgh. Fabulous food in a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely return.

I went to 'the Basement' in edinburgh on a wednesday night with my girlfriend and had a nice meal.

It was very busy and the place is a little packed in so it's rather difficult to get an intimate feeling, but were I dining with my mates that wouldn't likely have been a problem.

The drinks are overpriced but the food was very nice.

Staff looked a little strung out on a busy night, but they still managed to greet us with a smile. Good little restaraunt

Great meal, service was really good and the mussels were to die for. Will definitely go back to the Basement, if you're in Edinburgh and haven't tried it yet I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Love the food at the Basement - always very tasty and great value for money.

Cosy atmosphere and great food, love this place!

The Basement in Edinburgh is the best place to go for food and a relaxed atmosphere. The food is always top quality and with the waiters in Hawaiian shirts it's very laid back. We had a very good night there for new years eve but were surprised at how quiet it was given the time of year, it didn't spoil it for us though.

Nice an cosy, food delicious and piping hot.

Bad point-seating. We were put in a tiny alcove next to the toilets. It was so small everytime someone needed out you had to get up and push chair in! Worse we were given no other option when we asked and on leaving there were tables free in the main rest! If you could put up with this the food is actually quite good. There is a choice of wines, again good and reasonable. For us it all wasnt enough because of seating. Won't be back.

The Basement in Edinburgh is a great place to catch up with friends. We went for a lovely meal, and the staff were very accommodating when we wanted to keep the table a little longer. The Basement is busy, especially on a Friday night, so this isn't a place for a quiet meal. Good food, great staff and wonderful atmosphere!

We are regulars at the Basement as it's close to work. As usual, the burritos were top class. The service was efficient. We passed up the yummy desserts as we had a show to get to, but no doubt we will be back in the next couple of weeks as the food is consistently good.
