Had lunch at Brasserie One yesterday... food was OK, tasty if unspectacular, though in fairness we were a bit rushed and didn't really delve into the menu in any great detail. Service was excellent and attentive without being overbearing. Where this place falls down is its location, in the deep underbelly of the Institute of Civil Engineers... my guest had to phone me on arrival as they wouldn't let him in! I then had to run out to fetch him, all a bit of a fiasco. They should sort this out.
Brasserie One, inside and down the stairs in the Chartered Institute of Engineers near Westminster is a very nice find - a simple dining room, well laid out, discrete and well served by attentive but unobtrusive staff - delivered quick and high quality modern British food (liver, hake, chicken tarragon etc) excellent coffees and a good wine list.
Brasserie One at 1 Great George Street, Westminster, London, SW1 - a good place for a working lunch. Speedy service, good staff and prices were reasonable.
Brasserie One, Westminster is a hidden gem. Two courses for £20 is not cheap and cheerful however the quality of food, presentation and service was very good. Book a table to secure your spot and there is no rushing you away from the table if you book post 1pm (clears out post 2pm!).
Booked Brasserie One for a quick work lunch - nice food and good price!
Great place to have a quick, tasty meal in the Westminster area where there are few such places. Friendly staff, good menu and nice selection of wines. Would recommend a visit for business lunch or tourist treat.
Great venue and good food.
excellent, unobtrusive service.
Limited lunch menu with not a lot for small eaters. We had two starters whcih were well done and delicious.
Place is not easy to find as its not signposted. its downstairs in the engineers building so you do need to ask where it is
Brasserie One, London - Good value for lunch but quality of food disappointed
Although quirky (being in the basement of the ICE building) this was a wonderful and relaxed meal - a good spot in Westminster to get away from politicals. Good value and decent atmosphere. Next door bar - well not great so if continuing heda to Stephens Tavern
Great location - gets the job done, not much else nearby....
Excellent for a reasonably priced venue in Westminster.
good food but service not great. had to ask 3 times for the bill which is not ideal when having a business lunch under a time constraint.
Brasserie One, London. The club sandwich really good and great value.
The Brasserie One in Westminster is a lovely place to dine in. The ambience is not the best, but the staff and the food are beyond excellent!
Went for a quick weekday lunch at Brasserie One, although nearly missed it as it was unclear from outside the building that the brasserie was inside! Service was fine and food was decent - nothing outstanding, but fine for a mid-week lunch. Prices weren't too bad given the proximity to Parliament Square and portions were a good size.
The Restaurant Brasserie One is a very nice restaurant, staff friendly. The food very good. Very nice deal.
I wasn't quite sure what to think of Brasserie One. The menu was interesting, the food was good, and it was in just the right place. So three pluses, BUT the setting was a little soulless, the service was pretty bad (most of the time there just wasn't any serving staff in the restaurant at all!), it was pretty pricey and the food took ages to come.
We were in a hurry and they were most accommodating. Omelette was fantastic and would definitely use again.
Brasserie One in Westminster was a great place for a good lunch that combined business with the pleasure of good food. Although the restaurant was full, the service was excellent and attentive.
Great food, decor a little plain. Overall very good value.
Brasserie One, Westminster. Good food, good service. A handy place to know about if you're after an eaterie near Parliament Square
perfectly adequate for quick business lunch
Pleasant restaurant but a bit more like a refined dining hall. Food was pleasant but simple, wine list was not extensive but a basic selection of enjoyable wines. Conveniently located in the basement of the institute of mechanical engineers, its ideal for a quick satisfying business lunch - but not if you want something luxurious.
The restaurant itself is within the Institution of Civil Engineers and security wouldn't let us in as we didn't work there. We then spoke to reception who were happy for us to go through, so it was overall very confused. The restaurant was very nice, the food took a while to be served but it tasted very good . Staff were attentive but not bothering your all the time. Tables are well spaced. .
Brasserie One is pretty good on food and wine but location/setting which appeared in the description ain't all that. The initial area you enter may have a bit of history to it but once you go down the stairs then you arrive in a glorified cafeteria. I appreciate that relaxed dining environment delights some diners but the fact that an actual cafeteria exists next door behind a divide means they probably just split the room and didn't 'deign' it that way. This said food was good and wine great...
Great little hideaway with first class staff.
Brasserie One in Westminster is convenient, friendly, and the food is tasty. That does it for me! Oh and it also has civil engineers which is always good.
Excellent location for Westminster area and good value for money
Great lunchtime specials and just right for an hour-long meal. Excellent quick service, and a great bobotie!
Great meal and excellent service.
Excellent restaurant serving great food with wonderful service.
Excellent mushroom and tarragon soup. Delicious bream. Service a little slow for a quiet restaurant.
Brasserie One is reliable and serviceable, rather than remarkable. Good service, comfortable venue. Food was at reduced price because of restricted menu which made it better value for money than the regular deal.
I like it but would not raise expectations too much.
reasonable cost, local to me, not atmospheric although interesting position within old building, food OK - for a quick business lunch at lower cost it was fine.
Maybe we chose the wrong item from the menu (we were in a rush, and didn't get a lot of advice on what could be prepared quickly, so we guessed), but Brasserie One's club sandwich was rather ordinary for the money. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to rave about either.
Probably unfair to judge on this one experience.
Quiet and good food for an informal private lunch - a bit lacking in atmosphere however. Reasonable value and swift service - worth a visit.
A great find and highly recommended.
Brasserie One - Westminster. Very good food. Service fast and friendly. Extremely good value for area. Just a little noisy.
Brasserie One is a mixed bag. The restaurant interior feels a little plain and characterless, hidden away in the basement of a fine, old building.
Main courses were simply done and pleasant enough. The jelly, chantilly and mimosa flower dessert was exquisite and memorable.
The Brasserie One near Westminster is a surprising place. Not immediately obvious to find since it is inside the Institute of Civil Engineering - but worth finding. Very civilised food in the very centre of London at sensible prices. The ambience is definitely brasserie style but the food and service were excellent. Apparently new chefs have just started so it will be interesting to watch standards over time. 2 people, 2 courses + coffee (no wine) all for £40. A great find which I shall revisit.
Very friendly place (this was my second trip) and the service was great. I had the sea bream with mussels and black linguine which was delicious!! My friend had the mushroom risotto with shavings of parmesan on top which she liked, although it did not look exciting to me on the plate!! We had a glass of wine each plus coffee and the meal came to £47 which is quite expensive for just a main and some drinks. However, it is well worth the treat for a special occasion.
Slightly difficult to find the entrance to the restaurant, but overall a fine dining experience with capable service and good food.
I've eaten at Brasserie One before and even though it initially has a slight feel of a school dining room the food really is excellent and I would highly recommend. What soured me on this particular trip was the 2 courses for £26 deal - all of the courses are also individually priced and mine came to a total of £19. When I queried this they insisted the difference was due to the bread roll. £7 for a bread roll?! I know there's a recession on, but you're kidding me?!
Good food, good location and good value - very hard to find in Westminster!
Brasserie One in London's Westminster had a pleasant yet slightly dated environment, it is in need of some updating. The food menu was fairly limited but what was ordered and eaten was fantastic. Service impeccable and they went the extra mile to ensure the overall experience was a pleasant one. Money wise, appeared good value for money gien it's location.
The food at Brasserie One was excellent which matched the service. We ate at lunchtime and it is a great shame that the restaurant isn't well known probably because it is tucked away so gets no passing trade as it did lack some atmosphere. That said, I would definitely go back
