English's of Brighton is a surprising venue and very intimate - if youe at on the ground floor, you basically eat with all the restaurant. Great service, great lobster & mussels. A bit disappointed by the luxury hot seafood platter - a bit too greasy. But definitely go there for the lobster!
We visited English's of Brighton on Saturday night. We were disappointed that a speciality seafood restaurant didn't have a wider choice of fish species. We did enjoy what we had albeit rather expensive. The service was excellent.
Fabulous lunch thank you as always excellent serrvice
We ate from the set menu which was good value. The starters were simple and the main corse of grilled plaice was excellent. Overall a good choice of venue and menu.
English's didn't disappoint. The food was superb and the waitress who served us was fantastic. Would recommend for that special occasion
English's, Brighton. Not a great meal and service just OK
Cramped dining room. Very small portions. Very expensive. £52.00 a head for two courses and coffee?? Friendly, attentive service however.
We loved this restaurant, the food was really fantastic. The restaurant is teeny tiny and you mainly sit side by side with your companion, but that was part of the fun. The restaurant has lots of character and old school charm, the service was great and the food was delicious. (English's of Brighton)
On a visit to brighton I pre booked a set 2 course meal @ English's of Brighton.
This was a restaurant that had looked at many times but finances lacking it had not been somewhere I had been lucky enough to eat. The value for money was excellent and the food and service were great. Its definately somewhere that I would eat again, hopefully next time from the a la carte menu.....................
English's of Brighton - coming from the East End of London I'd describe the place as retro chic. I went there many years ago and the place hasn't changed a bit - that's good! Beer battered oysters were devine. Fish was fresh and succulent. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
English's is one of those Brighton mainstays that somehow managed to pass me by until a few weeks ago. Now I suspect it will become a favoured haunt, albeit primarily for those special occasions when you feel a bit flush and demand no less than the finest seafood (and a luscious rose champagne).
We had a vary nice meal at English's fish restaurant in Brighton yesterday. The service was excellent, waiters were very polite and helpful. The food was beautifully cooked and absolutely delicious. Maximum use is made of a very small space inthe restaurant but some guests have to sit side by side facing others across a narrow serving corridor. This takes some getting used to. Overall a great experience and one to be recommended.
Went to English's for a treat whilst in Brighton. Food was delicious and fresh and the quantity was just right. Waiters were friendly and very attentive, no music so restaurant was quiet at first, but less noticeable as it filled out later on in the evening. Overall a great experience, will definitely return on our next Brighton visit!
We both love English's of Brighton. Our fish was deliciously cooked, the waitress was helpful, without being intrusive, and the restaurant has a wonderful ambience. We cannot visit Brighton without a trip to English's which I think says it all.
Great atmosphere, lovely food. I had the split pea and ham soup to start which really was fantastic. Love this restaurant.
English's of Brighton - cute place and 2 courses for £10 cheap but food only average-good.
Unique - absolutely loved it.
English's of Brighton is a marvelous venue for a romantic meal. The overall feel of the building is lovely, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The only downside was that in these tight times it was a little expensive, but not overly so.
Good value restaurant. We were sat on a booth whilst we probably would prefer to have sat opposite each other.
We found the food at English's to be really tasty and excellent value for the lunch menu. A lot of variety was available and cooked excellently.
The service was pretty good and staff were friendly enough.
All round a solid 7.5 / 10
Excellent fish as ever -- but had to sit inside for first time and less than impressed with the layout -- tables far too close together!!!
Beautiful food, great price and amazing value for money
Great venue and lovely food very happy eat here soon
For a quaint little restaurant the food is superb!
We went for lunch and wow... What a lunch! An unusual environment but it's quirky decor adds to the whole experience. The service was very attentive and although we had to wait for our main course it was worth the wait. The seafood platter was delicious - the mussels are simply the best I have ever tasted.
The Pinot Grigio was also an excellent accompaniment and very reasonably priced. We will go back as soon as we can - simply delicious.
A very small but cosey restaurant in the heart of Brighton. Not a lot of atmosphere . Staff very helpfull and professional.
English's of Brighton is one of the best sea food restaurant's I have ever been in, in is a small quirky place but the food is fantastic good value and attentive service, I will definitely go again and would recommend everyone goes at least once.
The Diover sole was a dream -- also ate -- in late September!!! -- outside, bit chilly but worth it...up to it's normal standard
English's, Brighton. Went for lunch on two courses for £10 deal. Fair amount of choice available on this set menu and the food was very good; of the same good standard that we had experienced when we paid full price for an evening meal a couple of months ago. I had mussels for starter and then mackerel and my husband had deep fried sprat and then monkfish and tiger prawn curry. Service friendly and efficient. Only minor gripe is all diners put very close to each other despite other tables free!
English's of Brighton. Quaint and querky venue with good food and service. Points to be aware of; The downstairs area is tight so diners sit with their backs to the walls with a small central aisle alowing access. This means that it is likely that you will sit directly opposite someone from another dining party. There is more room upstairs, but this was closed upon our visit. If you are a wheelchair user - forget it. The fish and chips portions where huge - all others where small!
Good location and value.
Lovely seafood and great service! I had the oysters and brown crab spaghetti - delicious.
The english of Brighton is a very funky little place. The mussels were quality, the salmon very tasty but the venison was not great. Good times!
English's/Brighton: We booked here for the 2 courses for £10 and were not disappointed. It's an unusual venue (small room which they get around by seating you on the same bench to face other diners) so if you are unnerved by looking at other people when you are eating don't book here. There is a nice ambience though. The food was tasty (I did avoid the fish unintentionally with a goats cheese salad and green chilli pesto spaghetti which were both delicious) Service was good. Overall impressed
Food was excellent. Fresh and cooked to perfection.
As usual fantastuc food and deal, great service considering staff where so busy, I will be back
My partner and I ate in English's of Brighton on Saturday 1st October and had a fantastic experinece. The venue was beautiful, with friendly polite and experiences staff. The food and drink was to die for and we would return again as soon as we return to Brighton. I have recommended it to many of my friends and family already.
The English's of Brighton is a great place to eat, friendly greeting when we arrived. Nicely laid out dinning room. Menu catered for all and those that don't like fish; even the set menu for two or three courses was very good. Will begging again when were back on the south coast.
We returned to English's Brighton as we love the food and atmosphere. It was a lovely sunny lunchtime and tables were available both inside and out where there was a small band playing.my oysters were really fresh. My husband had his favourite fish pie to start and was a little disappointed that this has changed from mash top to a pie crust. It wasnt as good a previously. His scallops main was very good. My monkfish and squid was also good though the mustard cream sauce was a little rich for my taste.
Lovely restaurant but don't go expecting a quite chat with your partner/guest. A lot of cross table talking which is ok if you're interested in other peoples opinions. Great food & very good service.
English's is terrific. We were lucky on the weather but sitting outside was great - like being in Paris. The food was excellent - we went a la carte and this wasn't particularly cheap, but there was a set menu - pretty basic but fine, and reasonably priced. Wine was good and plenty of choice at under £20. Service was excellent - we lingered over drinks at the end and though it was a busy night there was no pressure to pay up and go. I wish I'd looked inside, though - historic venue, etc!
Again excellent food a real jem
We went to English's of Brighton. There was an excellent choice and I found it difficult to decide on what I wanted as all the options looked delicious. The food was good and it was lovely to be able to sit outside and watch the world go by. There was a band playing out in the square that not once, but twice asked if we wanted to make a contribution and buy their CD and seemed annoyed when I was not interested. I found this rather intrusive.
Excellent seafood and great ambience. Nice to sit outside on a sunny day.
Great and polite service, good food.
Lovely evening, great atmosphere with great food and wine. We were a Group of six and found service to be excellent and untroubled. 5 out of 6 chose the Grilled Dover Sole - excellent. Quintessentially English, English's of Brighton proved a real hit with our visitors from the US
My friend and I went to English's of Brighton for his birthday. The staff knew it was his birthday and we were given glasses complimentary champagne to start! The meal itself was amazing and the seafood was lovely and fresh. On the whole, a beautiful evening and great staff too! Will definitely go again!
English's as usual provided a delicious fish lunch. The £10 menu is a bargain but since 3 of our 4 went a la carte the bill was the usual £40 per head.
