Went to Jojolapa in Birmingham on a Friday evening - restaurant was quiet and a little cold, but got busier and warmer during our meal. The menu offers something to everyones taste, and both food and drinks are reasonably priced. Lamb and chicken were well cooked and tender, but both curries lacked some depth of flavour. The portion sizes were just right, though, and we had a good peshwari naan. Would visit again and try some of the more unusual options on the menu.
The two of us had a great dinner at Jojolapa in Birmingham. We usually can't enjoy medium/hot food and, as another reviewer previously pointed out, the menu didn't have any kind of indication for the hot dishes, so we blindly ordered two very hot mains; they were unexpectedly delightful, with very strong and particular flavours, their Lamb Rogan Josh is already a favourite and the naan was simply heavenly. It was a fantastic meal that we couldn't stop raving about!
4 of us had an excellent meal at Jojolapa in Newhall St Birmingham. Lovely atmosphere with friendly & helpful staff. The menu choice is good and we enjoyed trying the nepalese dishes, which are excellent! Nothing was too much trouble even though 2 of us wanted the same dish but one hot and one medium! Would definitely recommend and will visit again next time we are in Birmingham.
I enjoyed a fabulous starter and main course at Jojoloapa in Birmingham, sticking to the signature dishes as a way of trying something new. I opted for the steamed Momo starter, followed by the Lamb Rogan Josh. The menu had so much to offer and I don't think I'd have been disappointed with anything I'd have ordered.
The only comment I have to make is that I found the list of dishes hard to read on the menu; a combination of red type on a black background and dim, red ambient lighting.
Staff very attentive, food tasty and we enjoyed Momo starter. Some of the dishes were very hot and would have like some kind of indication on menu with regards to how hot each of the dishes were.
Excellent food and service. Will be back!
nice resturant, good food and service.
great food once again. Relaxed atmosphere, attentive service and really tasty food. Great value, highly recommended
A great Nepalese twist of you like Indian food, the menu had some lovely chefs specials that were well worth a try. The service was patchy with some long waits just to be seen so there is a need to pipe up and ask for the next course, a dessert menu and the bill. Decent wine list at reasonable prices too. We were there with a very noisy, all male, Christmas party going on in the next section which was a bit out of control but not the fault of the restaurant. Overall the experience was a good one and I would recommend it.
What an amazing evening. Some of the best food I have eaten in Birmingham and a great atmosphere. One of the places I will most defiantly visit again. Well done and thanks for making my Saturday night!
food was great and a really lovely atmosphere. The service was really good and we were not rushed through our meal. I would definately recommend this restaurant for value and service.
Decor was very welcoming, staff not attentive enough, food was mainly Indian, would have liked more Nepalese food to be on offer, might go back when they would be less busy, food was well presented and so the Chef very good just let down by his front of house staff.
Great night! It was my wife's 30th. All places I tried previously wanted us to be out in 2 hours or wanted a minimum spend of £1000! Good food and service!
Great food as always.
Very good service and the food was marvellous.
It was our anniversary and we had a great meal. We didnt say it was a special day for us and the manager still gave us free desserts to try. The food was presented nice & tasted delicious. The service was excellent. I would definitely recommend and go again. Thank you
Jojolapa - Birmingham (Nepalese / Indian cuisine)
Excellent food and attentive service. I would particularly recommend the Tibetan dumplings - 'momos'- as a starter
great venue, lovely food, I do highly rate the service, friendly staff and great food!
Reliably good food here. Plastic costed menu's could be improved to better suit the standard of food here as they make it feel a little cheap. The only problem can be speed of service when the restaurant is packed but usually the staff keep on top of it!
Wonderful meal as always! I can never find anything to complain about here! The chilli chicken is to die for!
The Valentine's Day menu at Jojolapa in Birmingham was sublime, although the service was painfully slow despite the restaurant being half empty. The complimentary strawberry dacquiri seemed to be non-alcoholic, but the food was excellent and the pianist was a perfect accompaniment to the evening. I would visit again, if I had several hours to while away over a meal. However my husband advised me that the bathrooms were in a poor state, so I didn't visit them myself.
Jojolapa Birmingham Good vegetarian food, especially the chick peas one and the spinach. Panner and Meat dishes werent that great. Service was absolutely awful once a big group of people turned up and they were clearly understaffed! Drinks and additional breads came after chasing them up four times!
We dined at Jojolapa in Birmingham for the second time this having been there just two weeks ago. Whilst much of the menu has similarities to many Indian restaurants, the flavours are somewhat unexpected. Having enjoyed the Chicken Nentaza and Keema Muttar so much the last time, we had to have the same dishes again. The service is friendly, the ambience is warm and the food makes you want to go back for more.
Jojolapa in Birmingham was very quiet on the Wednesday evening that I went. The reception was warm and the staff were helpful in explaining the menu and making recommendation. The food was well prepared and well presented and good value, especially with the 20% discount arranged through Top Table. A perfectly pleasant place for a solid meal at a decent price.
Jojolapa, Birimingham city centre Easy to find and well placed restaurant serving Nepalese food. Very attentive and friendly staff who took the time to go through the chef's specials - the ones we ordered were delicious e.g. dumplings which I wouldn't normally order. The food is what I would describe as Indian food but with a twist. Overall, food was delicious and served to us very efficiently in pleasant surroundings- not at all pretentious and great value. Highly recommend..
we had a lovely meal in Jojolapa last night. Food was great. The recommendations by the waiter were fantastic and they made veggie steamed momo for me. We also had the chilli paneer, okra, yellow dal and fish and enjoyed everything and were completely full after and couldn't eat everything. we ordered the dal and okra as side dishes but the portions were very generous. Very quiet on a Thursday night but would go again.
Jojolapa.... great place which caters to all tastes. we were a group of 10+ , some with anglo tastes, some native indians and some even from nepal ! Everyone walked out having really enjoyed the meal/
Staff were attentive but not overbearing, friendly and flexible.
Would definetely go back.
Our first visit to Jojolapa in Birmingham was excellent. After a warm welcome we were guided to a nicely located table where the waiter explained various items on the menu. I chose dishes from the Nepalese selection rather than the Indian choices and the food was superb. My expectation was for the food to taste like most other 'Indian' food but I surprised by some new and interesting flavours, including the Keema Mataar which my husband chose. The ambience was great and the service was excellent.
Lovely food but was surprised at how spicy it was. Ordered three different vegetable curries and would describe them as "madras hot", when I had expected that they would be mild to medium. I have a high spice tolerance and was comfortable with the level of spice used but my girlfriend could not eat the food we ordered, as it was much too spicy for her and ended up having to go without. The food in itself was cooked and presented to a good standard but be prepared for it to be very spicy!
a great introduction to a new restaurant and cuisine for me - attentive staff, excellent food and service and, on the toptable offer , excellent value for money. Will look forward to the next visit
I was really suprised by this restaurant. By the time we sat down to dinnerthere was only one other couple in the restaurant ... despite this there was a really nice atmosphere in this place. Apart from that the food was fantastic, everyone loved everything they had - which with a group of 7 including 1 fussy diner is a tall order. The subtle flavours and tender meat will definately draw me back time and time again.
Ist. time at Jojolapa Birmingham and what a really good experience we had! Although curries are not my favourite here was a place that could tempt me. We tried the Nepalese dishes as that was new to us. They were really tasty not overly hot and beautifully presented. Service was charming, friendly and efficient. Prices reasonable and with TT 20% off they became really good value. Curries still not my favourite but for those that they are. Go!
Four of us visited Jojolapa, Birmingham, and were impressed by the restaurants ambience, the staffs enthusiasm...and the food wasnt bad either. Bit surprised that online menu didnt correspond with the menu we saw...the shared dishes for instance. We all tried to opt for the Nepalese food, but this cuisine was definitely in the minority . There were startling omissions from the descriptions of the food ....I had a chicken pancake starter which contained a fried egg....surprising ! Overall good.
I was really pleasantly surprised by Jojolapa in Birmingham. The food was full of taste without being overwhelmed by chilli. Service was very good. There was no rushing us to get more folk in and we had a great leisurely meal for 14. I'd happily eat here again.
Jojolapa - Birmingham
Good quality food and pretty good value for money off the Lunch menu. Restaurant was very quiet for a Friday lunch time though.
Lovely welcoming restaurant and bar with a bustling atmosphere (even on a Monday night!). Enjoyed the friendly service and delicious food, but a personal preference would have been to see more 'authentic' Nepalese dishes on the Main Courses menu. This is just a minor gripe, as overall the standard of food and value for money means it's definitely worth a recommendation amongst Birmingham's expanding selection of ethnic restaurants that offer something a bit different!
Had lunch at Jojolapa which is in Newhall Street Birmingham. The food was absolutely delicious, well presented and excellent value for money. Although the restaurant was a little quiet, the surroundings are lovely and the staff very attentive. I would definitely recommend Jojolapa to anyone, and think i will try it for dinner one evening!
What a find!!! The decor is beautiful, the staff incredibly friendly
My wife and I went to Jojolapa, Birmingham on the evening of Saturday 6th March. We were impressed by the mix of Nepalese and Indian dishes on offer. I chose the stuffed dumplings which were very filling with a nice hint of spice whilst my partner had the kings prawns - again a very sizeable portion. The mains of duck curry & fish curry were devoured at a leisurely pace as we were still very full from the starters! We declined the desert menu and ordered 2 Irish coffees which were ok. Enjoyable!
Jojolapa's food was a sensation to the tongue - the seasoning and ingredients are perfectly differentiated from the traditional Bangladeshi cuisine one usually finds in Birmingham. The Merlot we had with our meal was a richly fruity choice and went particularly well with the more subtle flavours of the grilled chicken. The only downer was the noise from the bar - we were seated directly opposite when there was plenty of space in the quiet parts of the restaurant. Service was a bit overager too.
The food was lovely and service was great until people started filling up the bar. We were lucky to get the drinks we ordered!
Wonderful atmosphere, food delicious and the staff are all very friendly. The menu contains a number of Nepalese specialities as well as Indian favourites.
was a bit worried on entering the restaurant as we were the only people there, and for 7:30pm on the weekend this wasn't a good sign. Service however was very good, effecient. Food was of a high standard, and more care had probably gone into it as not really too much to do as nobody else there. In the end it was nice to have a quiet meal but this place definetly deserves to be busier. Food is very good, staff friendly, and restaurant is very nice.
Great ambience, sleek and trendy. Food was great (we ordered the nepalese starters, the nepalese pancake was great, so was the duck main course). Service was slightly less impressive, but overall a recommended place.
Jojolapa offers an interesting Nepalese twist on dishes that at first glance would appear to be North Indian. Nice food and good service. Worth a try.
My Husband and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at Jojolapa on Saturday evening. The food and service was outstanding. The evening just could not be faulted. It is not a cheap restaurant to visit but I still think that due to the quality of the fine food it is worth it. I have never given a restaurant 10/10 before! I recommend the wonderful Jojolapa platter for 2 and take up the offer of cocktails 2 4 1 that is presently on. I just cannot wait to go back !
