Monteiths in Edinburgh was really nice. We arrived early and had cocktails which were really good and the sitting area was cosy. We were seated slightly before the booking time despite the restaurant being busy. The service was very friendly and the food excellent. We had the pigeon with black purdding and hake mains with chips and mashed potato. The portion of the chips and pigeon were not the largest portion ever had but the food was good. We shared the pear dessert and it was very good.

Monteiths, Edinburgh. Very good. all our group enjoyed the food, the decor, etc.
Fantastic Restaurant! We couldn't recommend highly enough a visit to Monteiths in Edinurgh...it was faultless. Set just off the Royal Mile you might expect to pay over the odds for pretty ordinary food, but you'd be mistaken. The food was excellent both in terms of variety of choices and actual quality. The atmosphere in there was great and the service was exceptional - very friendly and very welcoming. Well worth a visit.
Our dinner at Monteiths in Edinburgh was in all aspects an immensely enjoyable experience. The restaurant-cum-members' club atmosphere, offset by candlelight, lovely decor, and pleasant, friendly staff, complimented the taste-buds-enticing menu which consisted of traditional Scottish fare updated with some modern European, with a bit of a kick. Great for romantic dates and outings with friends, or when you just want a tasty meal in pleasant surroundings.
We went to Monteiths on Friday at 8:00pm and the the ambiance was cozy and buzzing.
The food was nicely presented. I had the cured salmon as a starter which was really nice - although slightly saltier than I would have liked.
I would still definitely recommend this place for a nice evening out i a group or as a couple.
Monteiths restaurant in Edinburgh. Superb meal and an excellent enthuiastic waitress. Will definately be back.
Atmospheric and a real jewel on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Great bar, very relaxed feel to the place yet good food an slick service. Wine list a little light, however to its credit a good spread across grape varietals and producers. Only criticism was lack of decanter for our bottle of Chateau Musar 2001. Otherwise a great evening.
My wife and I walked down an archway of fairy lights to discover Monteiths hidden away off the Royal Mile, Edinburgh. As we descended into the cellar, we were warmly welcomed into the authentic Scottish restuarant. As an Englishman abroad, I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever Haggis (excellent flavours!) and wood pigeon - washed down with cocktails. The service was exemplary and atmosphere relaxed. Moneteiths comes highly recommended for anyone looking for some proper Scottish flavours and charm!
We went to Monteiths, Edinburgh for an evening meal and found both the food (particularly the pork belly) and service very good. Will definitely go again and would recommend to friends.
We went on 24th March, 4 women looking for good food and a relaxing atmosphere. This restaurant surpassed expectations, and we would definitely return. Every course was tasty, well presented, and just asking to be fed in forkfuls to each of us 'just to see if it's as good as it looks'. Wine was lovely, and very decently priced. the wee outdoors seating area was handy for nicotine addicts, but also a pretty area for any non smoker who just wants to chill outdoors. Service excellent. Go.
We entered through a concealed entrance off the High Street into a cosy romantically lit book-lined restaurant. Service was efficient and the food arrived in good time. My whitebait starter was delicious and well presented; my wife's crayfish cocktail light and appetising. I chose duck for my main dish, which was served with a bean salad. My wife's steak was cooked the way she liked i t, accompanied by roasted vine tomatoes and duck-fat chips. We didn't get the 20% off food Toptable offer.
Our visit to Montheiths was simply divine! the food is sensational, we sampled all three courses and there was no disappointments. the ambience is relaxed, luscious without being pretentious and we sat quite happily for over 2 hours without event realising it. The staff are helpful without being over bearing. I cannot recommend Montheiths enough, and we will definitely be going there again...and again...and again
I return to Monteith's, Edinburgh, time and time again and I am never disappointed. Whether I go with friends or with family, for cocktails or for food, the experience is always a pleasure.
Monteiths is a lovely chic restaurant on Edinburghs,' Royal Mile. The food is imaginative and beautifuly, but not fussily, served. Good selection of wine and cocktails.Attentive staff. Recommended
Excellent food. Waited a while on drinks and top ups of wine. Waiters much more attentive on last visit. Would still go back though.
Monteiths gave us very good quality food in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and there when you needed them but without rushing you. The menu was enticing and the food lived up to its promise. We'd certainly recommend a pre or post (or both) cocktail in the bar, and the trio of wines was a nice touch. If we lived in Edinburgh we'd certainly be regulars!
Monteiths, Edinburgh - My boyfriend and I had a lovely meal in here last night, really welcoming - loved the decor and the girl who served us looked after us all night and made sure we had a great night.
Spent a really pleasant Sunday evening here at short notice. Staff are friendly, the location intimate and cozy and the food impressed. Upon arrival we were greeted and promptly sat at the bar while our table was prepared. Staff are friendly and attentive and overall we really enjoyed the evening. Only minus point was they forgot to deduct the toptable offer from the bill - unfortunately I didnt notice until I got home. Otherwise very good.
We went to Monteiths, Edinburgh for a family meal for my Father's birthday and we didn't want to leave! Between the 5 of us we probably had one of everything on the menu and no-one was disappointed. To top that our waitress was fantastic and made the evening really special. We will definitely be returning for the next family birthday!
Nice place with great decoration and music, food was average and small quantities and it took a long time to get served. Overall good night but could be better value for money!
Monteiths was great, as usual. There is a nice atmosphere in the bar and the staff are friendly. The food was excellent. Nice choice of starters, it was hard to choose. Lamb main was delicious.
We had a girls trip to Edinburgh and treated ourselves to Monteiths. The food was super, the room a little dark and dingy, but maybe they call that romantic, and overall fairly pricey, but we didn't mind at all as the whole experience was super.
We had an amazing evening at Monteiths. We loved the style, quirky furnishings and atmospheric venue. The food was certainly inventive and, although the combination of ingredients on every dish didn't always hit the mark, the food was interesting, good quality, and great value on the toptable deal. Would recommend highly for 'something a bit different' and will be first on the list when we return to EDI.
Monteiths in Edinburgh is a very cosy venue. The food was good, the wine was good, the company was excellent and the special offer made it great value for money.
Very enjoyable evening - great food and service and such good value!
Excellent service, value and really good food. Would recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh!
Second time eating here, took my sister and my best friend. Great food and service was fantastic! although portions are on the small side - the flavour makes up for it! Will definitely be back...
Had a belated Xmas night out at Monteiths in January 2012. Booked the 3 courses for £24 offer however I think that was all that was on offer the night we went. The total cost came out at £50 per head including drinks. Menu was interesting and food was good. The service was excellent, the staff were attentive and very pleasant. We were quite a lively bunch which was fine because it is quite a lively establishment. Definitely not the place to go for a romantic dinner for two. No towels in the loo.
Lovely all round. Despite our lateness they were happy to offer us the restricted menu for dinner, with the chef making an exception on a busy Sat night. Great food and service and the cocktails are to die for.
Tha atmosphere in Monteiths in Edinburgh was lovely and the staff very friendly and attentive.
The menu was varied, but with strange combinations that limited choice (and I'm not a fussy eater!). The lighting was very low and the print on the menu very small which made choosing all the more difficult.
I felt it was overpriced for the quality of the food but the evening was made enjoyable by the staff and the surroundings. However I wouldn't go back again.
monteiths - lovely cocktails, lovely wine, but food was fairly expensive and for that price you expect no mistakes but there were a few here. the cod was slightly overcooked but huge and we enjoyed a lot. The starters were lovely and very interesting. Good menu and lovely service although a little overpriced
BEAUTIFUL FOOD, NICE SURROUNDINGS, ONE OF EDINBURGH'S LITTLE GEMS. COCKTAILS ARE A SPECIALITY IN HERE. AN INTIMATE SETTING WHICH IS GREAT FOR DINING WITH FRIENDS AND PARTNERS.
Marvellous evening, had always wanted to go to this restaurant with its magical fairy lights. The service was really good, and the food excellent, very well presented. We were on the £18 for two courses menu and it was such good value for money. Mussels and duck were great starters, crab mayo less do. Steaks all round as the chicken was off - what a great trade. Wine was reasonable by the glass and good. Sunday night and the place was pretty full too so good atmosphere. Great place.
Very impressed, particularly with the service. The food was great and the value for money was excellent, although we were on a special rate. Try it out.
My "foody" son and I had an excellent meal at Monteiths in Edinburgh. The service was friendly and very efficient and the meal a taste experience from beginning to end. Their Christmas menu looks superb.
Monteith's Edinburgh. This is a subterranean, cosy, friendly restaurant. Like a previous reviewer. I had to remind the staff they had an offer menu- it was not given up voluntarily. Mussels, Scallops, chicken, belly pork and veggy dish were all very good. The veg terrine was uninspiring. 1 main course arrived after all the others had been consumed. I was told it was free but when the bill came it was 45% reduced. We paid anyway as we had enjoyed our meal.
Cute, cosy and romantic. Monteiths is a hidden gem off the royal mile. The a la carte menu is probably better than the set menu however but there is a good wine selection.
This is a quality venue and the food is well above expectations. The "bowl" of mussels had half the harvest of loch fyne and was a meal within itself. The service was a little hit and miss and some orders did need repeating a few times but I highly recommend dining here.
We ate in Monteiths in High Street Edinburgh during the festival. The food was excellent, as was the service. However my only complaint and a small one too, was at the time of booking I asked for the set menu which was slightly cheaper. I then called to confirm the booking a few days before the day & checked that we were still eligible for the set menu to which the answer was yes. On the day they then told us we were not eligible as it stopped at a certain time and we were then passed this time.
Lovely meal. Food was mouth watering. Monteiths in Edinburgh is a great place to eat or to go for cocktails.
Great atmosphere, great food, attentive waiters, service just a bit to slow. I would go back.
The resteraunt of Montieths in Edinburghs old town, a hidden gem which, though situated in the hub of the town was quiet and a warm welcome was give. A easy booking on-line cut out the hassel of the phone call and the waitress who served us was very attentive. The food was excelent and we were not kept waiting at any point for service, without being overbearing. We will be making a return visit and look forward to it.
Had an unfortunate night at Monteiths. Arrived on time to a very busy restaurant, weren't seated for over 30 mins. Got free drink as an apology. Once seated, the service was friendly and efficient. My partner's haggis starter was lukewarm and his monkfish main inedible. Weren't charged for the monkfish but bill was still £55 for poor experience. The waitress apologised and said we'd caught them on a rare bad evening.
We had the 2 courses for £18 and it was good though the menu was limited. We had to wait a long time between courses but were given a glass of wine to compensate. It's very dark and they could do with some candles or something!?
Lovely food, great service, will go back once the festival has finished when it might be a bit quieter, noise from a nearby table made conversation hard but overall Monteiths in Edinburgh is a lovely little restaurant.
We had a table of 7 at Monteiths. The furnishings were a bit odd but the food generally was very good except for 2 steaks which were not well cooked - twice! I would go back but the steaks mean a lower rating from us.
Dined at Monteiths in Edinburgh from the 2 courses for £18 set menu. Setting and ambience was first class although I felt that the seats that were plastic, whilst stylish, were more suited to a garden. Service was fast initially but waited an age for desert. Food was good although not outstanding e.g. poached pear would have benefited from being served warm. Gripes aside, location and setting would merit a return visit and we would recommend to others.
Monteiths edinburgh : the food are good and well prepared. the ambience is very noisy and dark.
Really good food, we had the duck egg for starter and steak for main. Food was tasty, well presented and service was really good and prompt
I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting scottish cuisine!
Monteiths High Street Edinburgh - What an entrance ! Beautiful with willow branches laced with fairy lights. The service was excellent and the food very good. Only downside for me was the noise. I think because it is a basement restaurant any noise is made louder. None the less I will return !
