We had an absolutely fabulous meal at Number One. It was everything you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was impressive, very attentive without being obtrusive. I'll be back!
Had a fantastic meal at Number One, Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. The rabbit to start was immense, moist and perfectly cooked. Main was wild salmon, again stunning. The cheese board was very nice. Service was great, very attentive and chatty staff. This comes at a cost but worth every penny :)
Number One @ The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh is a superb restaurant. I get the impression that Edinburghers regard it as unfashionable, at least compared with such as the over-worshipped M.W.'s for example. This is good news for those like me who are suspicious of the herd instinct. Once again our recent visit was most enjoyable. Food superb, staff pleasant and efficient. Atmosphere calm and relaxing. This is an expensive restaurant which warrants the expense.
Went to Number one in Edinburgh's Princess Street Balmoral Hotel on Saturday evening and once again had the best meal ever started with the goats cheese - yummy then had Salmon for main and banana souffle to follow excellent. the little titbits in between were excellent too as was the bread. Not the cheapest but certainly the best!
A fantastic dining experience. Top marks all round. Food, wine, service and ambiance of the highest standards.
We booked Number One to experience fine dining and a Michelin star restaurant in Edinburgh for the first time. The flavours and combinations for the tasting menu were incredible, service was attentive without being intrusive. Would highly recommend.
As always prefect
'Number One' at The Balmoral, Edinburgh: Fantastic, beautiful food and impeccable service. We loved everything about it, from the Skye crab amuse-bouche to the chocolates served with the coffee. A wonderful eating experience!
Our second visit to Number One at the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh.
A elegant, private and cosy dining room with friendly and relatively informal service but still the standard you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Having been to many restaurants in London, the food here is as good and in some cases better. Hand dived scallops with black pudding and the best (again) souffle for dessert made this a memorable dinner. Will definitely return again - by then they should have two stars.
We dined at Number One at the Balmoral Hotel when we stayed at the Hotel after christmas and our experience was what you might expect of an award winning restaurant. service and food both impressive, everything artistically presented and the atmosphere warm and inviting. It is, of course, expensive, so it has to be a rare treat, but we would certainly go again
We went for our office Christmas lunch - lovely ambience with very spacious and comfortable table setting. We had the Christmas menu which was excellent although the portions were a little on small side. The service was excellent and the Sommelier had very good suggestions.
We had a wonderful meal at No1 at the Balmoral in Edinburgh probably one of the best meals we have had in Edinburgh
Top Class service and food would only recommend to friends who have enough spare money and style when eating out.
I had an absolutely superb meal at Number One in Edinburgh. The tasting menu was inventive and made excellent use of seasonal and local produce. The accompanying wines were well selected and introduced by the knowledgeable sommelier. There was an intimate atmosphere in a luxurious setting and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to spoil themselves whilst in The city.
Just book and go. Words can not explain this experience, go and be royalty for an inexpensive night, with all the experience of a top class chef, food was exceptional. Service 100%.
Booked a table at Number One in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh as a Birthday treat and because you should experience fine dining at least once in your life. Number One did not disappoint! The staff were incredibly courteous and helpful. The restaurant was quiet and seating was such that you didn't feel like you were on top of the other diners. Finally, the food was absolutely fantastic. The amuse bouche between courses certainly amused our bouches. Great evening all round!
The meal we had at the Number 1, The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and the food was beautiful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Excelent meal, venue and service.
A good meal and very good service.
Number One The Balmoral Hotel, 1 Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2EQ
Good food, and where I would recommend in central Edinburgh.
Nice setting & good service. Food was very small portions, even over 7 courses. After a busy day in Edinburgh didn't satisfy our hunger! Good presentation and obviously top ingredients but we would have preferred larger portions. Very expensive.
Number One @ the balmoral was excellent! Tasting menu had great flavours (& portion sizes!). A great meal, would recommend.
Food was absolutely amazing, the appetite was very impressive and the service was excellent. The sofa table was very comfortable. I was planning to order a birthday cake with them, but they would charge 30 pounds for a small one, which I think it's a bit expensive.
Definitely one of the top-notch restaurants in the UK. Everything is spot-on. The food is excellent and the waiting staff is so well trained and friendly. The waiters also have a thorough knowledge of the food they are serving. The total dining experience is just amazing! Before we finished our dinner, we were already thinking of returning when we come to Edinburgh again.
Fabulous evening. Outstanding food and service
Went to Number one, Edinburgh on Saturday aptly named everything was excellent, the food, service, wine definitely up there with the best in Edinburgh
We had dinner at Number One in Edinburgh. The offer only applied to the 6pm slot so we had the restaurant to ourselves for an hour. We were greeted warmly and the service throughout was faultless. In addition to our three courses, which were sublime, we were treated to an amuse bouche and a pre-starter - both delicious. One of the highlights was the choice of 6 freshly baked breads. We tried 3 different kinds and they were all fantastic. A great experience. We'll definitely go again.
We had the tasting menu at 9PM. The service was rapid and attentive, but at times if felt a little too rapid due to the hour. The decor was nice, but disappointingly unremarkable for a restaurant in such a grand building.
The food was cooked to perfection with lots of rich flavours. The only thing you could say against it would be that it lacked a little in creativity, being generally classic. Some of the starters were surprising, but the desserts were just OK. The wine selection was great.
We enjoyed a superb meal at Number One, Edinburgh, last night sampling the Chefs Tasting Menu with accompanying wine. Although the food didn't quite blow us away as we thought it might, it was all expertly executed with a few delightful combinations that you wouldn't think would work. The wine was excellently matched to each course, all individually introduced by the very knowledgable sommelier who has an obvious passion for his work. Overall, possibly the best dining experience we've had so far
Number One at The Balmoral in Edinburgh exceeded my expectations. We opted for the tasting menu with wines to match and the variety and quality of the food and wine on offer was superb. I would strongly recommend a visit.
My boyfriend and I dined at Number One at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh on Sunday 10th July 2011. It was a special occasion as it was my boyfriend's 30th birthday and I can honestly say that everything was perfect!! The atmosphere, the decor, the service, the choice of wine, the food, the little extras were all absolutely amazing!! Next time we are visiting Edinburgh we will be sure to return. Thank you for making my boyfriend's birthday that extra bit special.
i love the Balmoral, and the Number One restaurant is not bad either. Innovative and delightful cuisine by Michellin-starred Executive Chef Jeff Bland. The design and decor of the place originates from Mandarin Oriental, the walls very in fact shipped from one of their properties. It also does not weaken the experience that the restaurant resides in the Rocco Forte hotels' flag ship property !
I felt Number One in Edinburgh does live up to it's Michelin star rating, however I wasn't completely over-awed by the food, which I was hoping for.
Exquisite delicious dishes, very nice environment, good value. The best restaurant in Edinburgh, would definately recommend.
The Number One at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh is the finest restaurant in Scotland. Service was impeccable and the food devine. We took the tasting menu with wine. We paid extra for the cheese tray and were a little disappointed that wine was not served automatically with that course and we had to pay extra. We left merry and happy. It is not cheap but worth it for that special occasion.
An excellent meal in excellent surroundings. Staff were very friendly and attentive. My starter was mushroom soup and was without doubt one of the best things I've ever eaten. I've eaten in many Michelin starred places in London like The Square, Claridges, Hibiscus etc - and Number One is right up there. Recommend it to anyone.
Number One is always a treat to go to. We were made very welcome and although we had to wait while our table was being prepared they sat us exactly where we wanted to be at the side of the restaurant. The food is faultless, the sevice impecable and the evening was a great succes.
Absolutely brilliant........there is nothing more I can say accept it was the perfect evening! Food was brilliant, service was brilliant and the wine and cocktail list was brilliant!!!!!
An excellent meal at an excellent restaurant. The staff were very attentive in an unintrusive way. Will go again.
Excellent service and wonderful food at The Balmoral. We had the tasting menu which was exceptional and good value relative to the a la carte. Sommelier Peter is very helpful .
Booked this place because it was my birthday. Had a lovely evening meal with my husband to be. It was very expensive but well worth the occasion. Highly recommended the scallops as starters and monkfish as main. The amuse-bouche was superb. Tried haggis for the first time and it is not my thing!
great meal - we had the three course dinner but it turned out to be a 7 course meal with canapes, amuse bouche, pre-dessert and petite fours on top of our meal. The bread trolley was a nice touch though for a one michelin star restaurant - it should have been served warmed , and sliced evenly - it was cut in a bit of a haphazard manner which dampened the one michelin star experience. I felt the manager could have been more enthusiastic about the restaurant, overall excellent meal
This was brilliant. Fantastic service and good food. Excellent value with all the extra course.
Went to Number One for Valentine's Day. There was a special 8 course menu on for £75 but it was worth every penny. Some of the best dishes I have ever tasted. Not something we could afford to do every day but well worth the price for a one-off treat.
Staff were extremely professional and helpful. Would definitely recommend to a friend for a special occasion.
Number one is a fantastic place to spend a luxurious evening dining in style. The food is of an exceptional standard, superbly complemented by the service. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome, and the atmosphere is very relaxing, although it is a little under lit.
It is not a cheap place to eat but if your budget can stretch to it, then you will not regret it. With excellent food in great quantities, this was a thoroughly enjoyable night out.
Review of Number One - Edinburgh
Decor/layout of the restaurant set an initimate environment. The bench corner seating was extremely comfortable &romantic. We selected the Chef's tasing menu with wines. The staffs knowledge of both food and drink was exceptional and the sommelier had thorough knowledge of the wine selections to accompany the dishes. The food was the right quantity with varied mix of flavours which of all the dishes neither of us can pick our favourite. Impeccable service
Went to The Balmoral Hotel Numer One Restaurant for a special Xmas present for my husband from myself. It was amazing! We arrived wearing many layers of clothing and snow boots for the weather outside and gratefully they have a cloakroom to store all your items, so after putting on my high heels I was ready to be taken to our table. The whole fine dining experience is wonderful, a bit expensive but very exclusive and worth it. The food is beautiful, staff very friendly. Perfect for romance.
The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. Great venue, and great service, the food is sublime, lots of choice on the menu. Don't expect a quick email, it is very much a 2-3 hour meal with lots of courses!
No1 at The Balmoral in Edinburgh is a delight and only for special occasions. To enjoy the Chef's tasting menu don't eat anything for lunch! Beatifully presented with extremely friendly staff. The apple sorbet pudding is worth the wait.
