Restaurant 66a in The Cotswold Lodge Hotel on the Banbury Road in Oxford was discovered by us when searching for a suitable venue for Sunday lunch. We have visited many times since and always enjoyed the relaxed but still slightly formal setting and the wonderful food. Saturday was our first evening visit with friends. The simple menu still gave us lots of choice and variety. Value for money, good service and reliability and is something many places fail to give but not 66a, it's a little gem!

We visited Restaurant 66a, Oxford on Mother's Day for lunch. The service was really excellent with lots of helpful staff everytime we needed someone. The was really delicious and excellent value. With a vegetarian in our party it might have been nice to have one or two more creative options for them but overall it was very nice food. The 2 / 3 course deal for that day was great and we were really pleased when we got the bill!
Three friends and I went to Restaurant 66a for afternoon tea yesterday. It was a great deal! £6 per person and we had excellent tea and cakes! It was pretty quite, as we were the only guests there for the tea yesterday. Highly recommended for a free and easy afternoon hangout with friends.
Restaurant 66a was very quiet when we arrived, which made the few diners a bit self-conscious about their conversations as there was no background music to break the silence. However, the food was very tasty and with the offer very good value. Service was attentive and the restaurant itself very nicely decorated.
Restaurant 66a is nothing more than a fairly stylish hotel restaurant, and the food is if anything worse than standard hotel restaurant fare. The cuisine would be best described as traditional English takes on vaguely European dishes, and by traditional English I mean overboiled vegetables, soggy pasta, dry meat and tasteless sauces. Oxford has a reputation for terrible food, and this place does nothing to challenge. Even for guests at the hotel I'd suggest finding somewhere on North Parade.
Resturant 66a in Oxford was excellent value for money for a set meal Sunday lunch with plenty of choice on the menu and very pleasant service. We went as a family of 8 and were very impress with all aspects of the meal, service and location. Easy to park with a good selection of wines. There was not any options for children's meals but the 5 year old of the party was very happy to scoff down her Sunday roast.
Restaurant 66a in Oxford was absolutely superb. It was a Monday evening and thus quiet, but the soft jazz music playing created ambience and the service was courteous, efficient and discrete. The restaurant is in a lovely undestated Georgian style and the tables are set a good distance apart - enough for ambience but not close enough for conversation to be intruded upon. The food was delicious, even on the set menu, and the wine excellent. Will definitely go there again for a special occassion!
Found Restaurant 66a through the web and how glad we are that we did. So far we have had three Sunday Lunches and a cream tea. All have been delicious and value for money (especially the cream tea). Looking to try the evening as soon as possible, a little gem in the middle of Oxford.
it wasn't good at all. the food was horrible. Salmon is a bit off.
Only good thing is the services.
I booked a table the The Cotswold Lodge Hotel, Oxford, after having eaten there on a number of previous occasions, and being impressed by them. This time, however, was different. The bottle of wine I ordered was already open and had some missing (though they did apologise and bring a fresh bottle), the mackerel was surprisingly tasteless and bland, and the main course (monkfish with salmon) was nothing exciting. Not a bad evening as such, but it was still far short of what I hoped for.
We had a family birthday lunch here on a Sunday. 13 of us including 2 children under 3. Our table was excellent, almost square so we could all talk together, with a high chair conveniently placed for the smallest child. And it was placed in a private are with a partition between us and the other diners, which made it very private. The children especially liked this as they were able to move around teh table without disturbing other diners. The meal and drinks were value for money.
Disappointing Sunday lunch given the previous reviews. Food all rather bland and unappealing on the plate. Very good value for money (£12.95 for 2 courses) but lacked interest and atmosphere
Lovely venue. Impeccable service. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. There were some really delicious things on our plates (light crispy Yorkshire pud, best ever sticky toffee pudding, crunchy veg and basil tuile contrasting well with the creamy risotto). But the starters were very disappointing, the roast beef was tough, the gelatinous cheesecake was from the 70s and the most interesting flavours on the ice cream menu were unavailable.
We had a lovely meal at Restaurant 66a for Mother's Day celebrations on Sunday 3 April 2011. The 3 course meal, wine selection and ambience were enjoyed by all and I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent food - oysters were very fresh, and duck was perfect.
Great service, and the set menu was good value for money.
Restaurant 66a, Banbury Rd, Oxford. Fixed price 3 course menu with 5 choices for each with sufficient variation to suit most people. Good quality with ample portions, service efficient, polite and friendly. Excellent value, highly reccommend
Food good but not worth the money could be bettet seasoned and richer deeper flavours. The TT deal is standard hotel deal.
Restaurant 66a@ The Cotswold Lodge Hotel gave us some very well prepared food, and has a good service. Positive experience!
Ok food, reasonable service, nice setting, very quiet restaurant. The offer was good but the overall package was nothing special so would probably not make a return visit to The Cotswold Lodge Hotel Oxford.
Food was very nice and plenty of it. Service was not very good, not very polite or friendly.
Seemed to be the only guests who werent staying in the hotel. It was a very quiet restaurant so hard to speak in private. Would recommend as good value for money
Excellent - would definately visit again. One of our party has many food intolerances and the restaurant was very reassuring when i telephoned to ask them about catering for this - and we weren't disappointed. They adapted all the choices and were most helpful.
Excellent service, friendly yet discreet. Food super and good value. Nice venue and easy to park. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Very good food, friendly service. I really don't know why the place was so empty on a saturday night - perhaps it was the cheesey, easy listening commercial jazz radio that was playing - which was turned off when requested, thankfully. Apart from the music everything else was top. I'd eat here again for sure.
66a in Oxford gave us a very enjoyable meal which was fantastic value for money. Being in a slightly out-of-the-way hotel, it was very quiet; the kind of silence where your conversations don't feel entirely private, yet it equated to very attentive service - jacket storage, water, warm artisan breads and an appetiser were all offered unprompted, and the food we had ordered was faultless. Definitely worth a visit for some tasty food and smart ambience on a budget.
We decided to go for the Lodge menu rather than the a la carte and I think this proved to be a good choice as some people appeared less than happy with the a la carte. The Food was very good, well presented, and very tasy with good flavours. 3 courses for £18 of this type of quality was definitely value for money. One downside was the location of the table which was right next to a window with a very chilly breeze.
Nice restaurant, about 15-20 minutes walk from centre of Oxford. Delicious food by chef who is clearly aiming for London standards whilst keeping flavours clean and fresh. Lovely presentation and good service. Excellent value and a real find. Would go again.
We had a truly enjoyable dinner at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel at Oxford - the food was excellent, and with the offer of 2 courses for £15, incredibly good value too! All three of us had the lamb for our main, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone going there again. We will definitely be going back!
66a@The Cotswold Lodge Hotel Oxford - v professional service. Good value for money. Fresh produce, well presented. Limited wine list by the glass. Good interior decor. Would go again.
really nice meal, the food was fantastic great vale on the oxford menu for the food in witch you recive, will go back...
66a is a lovely restaurant offering high quality food at excellent value - can't say the same for the hotel it is attached to! We both had 3 courses - pate, pork and crumble. All a good size, lovely flavours and well presented. This restaurant also has parking, a real bonus in Oxford!
High Quality Food - Lovely quiet setting - And Good parking
The Cotswold Lodge Hotel, Oxford. Another excellent meal - good food, attentive service and terrific value for money. The dessert was especially wonderful!
The hotel and the restaurant known as 66a @Cotswold Lodge Hotel are what people would think typical of an Oxford location with lots of brass and wood in this Georgian building but it also had some sympathetic modern touches. The lounge where we had coffee was delightful. We ate from the set meal which was varied enough to allow for vegetarians and people with certain allergies to still have a choice. The portrion sizes were good and wine list was moderate but sufficient for us.
Service was excellent, presentation of meals was wonderful. The atmosphere was just right - a great evening!
66A at the cotswolds lodge hotel was really easy to find, plenty of car parking spaces, the interior was a lot better than what it shows in the photo (probably re-decorated?) Quality of food was really good --- 2 course for £15 was absolute good value for money.
I was going to write a comprehensive review of this place but Toptable can't handle over 500 characters.
If you are looking for local produce at a reasonable price in a contemporary setting without the fuss, 66a is one of the better venues in Oxford for the dining experience.
Service was good but atmosphere lacking, it was Saturday evening but we were one of only 3 couples dining.
Had Sunday lunch at 66a yesterday. Although the service was good and the staff were very accommodating, the place was deserted and the food mediocre. Starters were good but the roast pork overcooked and dry. Nothing to make us want to rush back.
66a at The Cotswold Lodge was a really great place for a quiet meal. Though it's a bit out of the centre of Oxford, it's definitely still worth the trip. Service was attentive and not too formal, and the 3 courses for £18 was a pretty good deal. The food was tasty and decent portions. Decor was modern particularly the exciting light-fittings! Definitely recommended.
66a at the Cotswold Lodge hotel was a new experience for 4 of us on a birthday outing. We ate from the Table d'hote and were not disappointed. Often you get small portions of poor quality but the mussels were some of the best my wife and I have tried and the beef rump was as good as a lot of sirloin. One or two niggles in that they put gravy on one plate when asked not to and they were laying breakfast around us at 10.00. Would recommend for a change in Oxford.
It was a very lovely restaurant within the hotel and the food was really nice - perfect after a long day shopping at bicester village.
66a @cotswold lodge hotel Excellent service and my choices from the fixed menu were really nice my husbands pork belly was under cooked and not great but over all would definately recommend
Had a very pleasant meal. The staff were very attentive and the service was excellent. The set menu was a little limiting, but the food we had was good and quickly served. Ideal for couples or larger groups and families.
66a is a lovely restaurant, great ambiance. Dined there on a recent Monday night, when there were not too many tables filled. Had drinks in the bar area first, which is quite cozy. Originally intended to take advantage of the set menu, but the a la carte offerings looked quite nice, so we tried those instead. Very good food, especially the pork belly main. Next time, we'll opt for the set menu, though, as our neighbors ordered from it, and the food looked both plentiful and just as good.
We went to 66a for a Valentine's day dinner. The set menu was well priced, given the occasion. The food was cooked nicely and well presented although the choices weren't particularly inspirational. The canapes and the pomegranate champagne cocktail were a nice touch. Service was excellent and, unusually for Valentine's day, the restaurant wasn't overcrowded.
