For all those of you who have been dunking your Jaffa cakes in your gin for years comes the answer to your prayers – Jaffa Cake Gin

Yes this is, as the kids say,’a thing’. Some crazed booze boffin came up with the idea of distilling gin with oranges, fresh orange peel, cocoa powder and Jaffa cakes.

Instead of being asked to collect his or her P40 as you might have expected, they were carried in triumph around the distillery and cheered to the rafters, or at least that’s what we’d like to believe.

Because most flavoured gins suck, we should know as we have tried most of them.

99% of the time you ask yourself’why did they bother?’ as you grimace and take another snort – well you don’t ever waste gin, do you.

This one though makes perfect sense – although at first you might not think so.There’s the orange for a start – goes very will gin, as does any citrus fruit.

mcith_IMG_5660.jpgSo, let’s make a G&T.What you get is neither sweet nor sickly. There’s a hint of marmalade on the nose and then there’s some slightly bitter chocolate tones close behind.

The requisite classic grown-up, slightly tart, crisp and astringent juniper tones are there too, and then there’s the unmistakable taste of Jaffa Cake. Just how did they do that? Steep a packet of Jaffas in the still?

The makers recommend making a Negroni. In fact, on the label they say it will make the best Negroni ever.

Well due to lockdown we have no Campari or Vermouth in the house, but masked up with a scarf like and old-time bank robber, we now intend to go out and get some.

Am I out making an essential purchase, officer?  Well yes I am, because JAFFA CAKE GIN!!They’ll understand.

Alternatively, rather than risk the rozzers you can get Jaffa Cake Gin online, plus a kit to make Negronis from Masters of Malt
