Michelin starred Japanese restaurant UMU in Mayfair are celebrating their 20th anniversary this Sept 2024.
To do so former UMU Executive Chef Yoshinori Ishii will be returning to cook with current Exec Chef Ryo Kamatsu to host three very special 20th Anniversary dinners.
The dinners will offer guests a rare chance to sample the finest selection of Sake wines and Moët & Chandon vintage champagnes plus a very special 2004 anniversary Jeroboam (double magnum) bottle of Moët & Chandon—a bottle as grand in size as the occasions themselves—raising a glass to UMU’s milestone 20th anniversary.
The fine drinks will be paired alongside UMU’s most exquisite signature dishes.
Over the past two decades, UMU has become a cornerstone of Japanese fine dining in London, celebrated for its innovative approach, unwavering commitment to quality, and deep respect for traditional Japanese culture.

An Evening of Sake & Celebration – Friday, 13th September
The festivities will commence on Friday, 13th September, with an intimate and exclusive sake dinner.
In collaboration with World Sake Imports featuring the return of former Executive Head Chef Yoshinori Ishii for a very special dining experience. UMU will present a curated tasting menu paired with some of Japan’s finest sakes, including Masumi, Souhomare, Akitabare, and Tamagawa.
Guests will savour UMU’s celebrated dishes, such as Lobster and Prawn Shinjo (Nimonowan) and a selection of sashimi (Tsukuri).
The sushi course features Sea Bass with sesame, Langoustine with ginger, Toro Aburi with truffle, and Crab Courgette. The Yakimono selection includes Eel Kabayaki & Wagyu Beef with seasonal accompaniments.
The evening will conclude on a sweet note with a Charamisu with Sake Kasu, all complemented by a thoughtfully curated selection of sakes, handpicked by UMU’s Head Sommelier, Ryan Johnson.

Moët & Chandon Dinner – Tuesday, 17th & Wednesday, 18th September
On Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th September, UMU will have the privilege of hosting two prestigious collaboration dinners with Moët & Chandon, featuring the return of former Executive Head Chef Yoshinori Ishii for a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience.
These special events will showcase a luxurious tasting menu, including dishes such as Scallop and Lobster Tartare with Steamed Abalone and Caviar, Amadai Tempura with Matsutake and Yuzu, and Wagyu Beef Fillet Yuan Yaki with Shiso and Kuro Zu.
Each course will be meticulously paired with a rare selection of Moët & Chandon vintage champagnes, including a showstopper 2004 vintage Jeroboam—a bottle as grand in size as the occasion itself—raising a glass to UMU’s milestone 20th anniversary.
Both evenings will be a celebration of UMU’s remarkable journey and a testament to their enduring legacy in the world of fine dining.
