This Day of the Dead, Zapote the Mexican restaurant from Tony Geary and Yahir Gonzales will celebrate in the best way they know how.
Expect three days of foot stomping, mezcal driven expertise and unrivalled recipes from chef Yahir’s family. Mezcalero, the master of mezcal, will take centre stage this Day of The Dead.
Tony and Yahir have invited friends Lost Explorer to come and pour the lesser known spirit – to be sipped on neat or in the form of a cocktail including Zapote’s signature Zapote 70, a blend of Casamigos tequila, Ojo de Rios Mezcal, Orgeat and lemon.
Or De Montoro with Casamigos mezcal, Gran Reserva cava, grapefruit Jarritos and elderflower. Yahir has also crafted a pudding to mark this poignant day in Mexico – a delicately shaped skull filled with dark chocolate and blood orange, where each guest ordering will be offered a glass of Lost Explorer Mezcal Tobala 10 year old.
As pointed out by Yahir the Day of the Dead is huge in Mexico – the streets come alive with costumes, parties and music to be enjoyed all around. For his family it’s always been about coming together to enjoy the fun – and Zapote plans to recreate that at the restaurant with their Mezcal pairings and desserts.
Day of The Dead at Zapote runs from 31st October – 2nd November
