We were lucky enough to be invited along to the most recent in the current series of Blueprint Café’s supper clubs,’An evening of English wine and fizz’ with Nyetimber.
The supper clubs, hosted by Chef Patron Mini Patel, have been taking place throughout the summer at the beautiful riverside restaurant, each one a collaboration with a different British supplier.
Our supper club was co-hosted by Nyetimber, who provided the exquisite wines on the evening. Nyetimber’s brand ambassador, Steffan Griffiths, was an engaging and knowledgeable host who talked us through the wines paired with each course.
We started on Blueprint Café’s balcony with a glass of Nyetimber’s Classic Cuvee multi-vintage, which we were more than grateful for on one of the hottest days of the year, before sitting down to our communal table.
The menu was carefully thought out by Mini, including flavourful combinations that were both satisfying yet light enough for the hot evening.
Our meal began with a refreshing Colchester oyster’hot/sweet/sour’, which woke up our taste buds perfectly – the creamy oyster complimented by flavours of apple and a very spicy jus. This was paired with Nyetimber’s Classic Cuvee 2010, which we tried in half bottles – a more concentrated version of the wine we’d just tried.
Our next course was a wedge of iceberg lettuce with a rich shrimp butter, which was paired with Nyetimber’s Blanc de Blancs 2010. We were then served a perfectly cooked piece of Cornish sole with preserved fennel, grapes and roasted red pepper, alongside Nyetimber’s Rosé multi vintage, a crowd-pleaser and the favourite of the evening.
We were treated to a surprise cheese course – a slice of Bix cheese made in Oxfordshire, with some delicious crackers and homemade gooseberry chutney. Dessert was a lemon and elderflower cream with strawberry sorbet, alongside the sweetest wine Nyetimber produce – the Demi sec multi vintage.
The evening was truly spectacular, and we left with full bellies, a renewed interest in British wines and some new friends to boot.
The next in the series will be’an evening of British beef and beer’ with South Bermondsey’s Small Beer Brew Company on Thursday 23rdAugust: Tickets are £45, and if our dinner was anything to go by – will be fantastic value for money and an all-round unmissable experience.
The final event is’A Cornish fish and seafood supper’ with Flying Fish on Thursday 27thSeptember, with more details to follow shortly.
