Nick gives himself some love with the ready to eat, super healthy meals deliverd daily by loveyourself.uk
“The greatest love of all, Is easy to achieve. Learning to love yourself. It is the greatest love of allâ€Â
Whitney Houston warbled that one back in the 1990s. I always thought it was rather a peculiar lyric; just what exactly was she on about? Sounds a bit, well, onanistic to me.
But as it happens I do love myself, I’m great. So when invited to try meals from loveyourself.uk I gave myself a big hug and sat back to await delivery.
The idea is that each day your meals arrive in time for the next, Six styles of diet, including Keto, Gluten Free and of course Vegetarian.
The menus change each day, as well as each week.Head Chef, Michal Snela, who has worked in Michelin Restaurants alongside Marcus Wareing uses his flavor and culinary expertise to create the meals.
A nutritionist is also involved and every meal is scannable via MyFitness app to help you keep track of calories and macro-nutrients. I don’t need that app as my body is a (ruined) temple.
Delivery was well managed, with regular updates on estimated early evening arrival time.
I’d fallen asleep on the sofa by 7pm, lockdown does odd things to the body clock, and I jumped out of my skin when the doorbell went.
The packaging is a paper bag and each meal is in what I am sure are biodegradable containers, possibly cornstarch.
So that’s all good. Each item has a label telling you what it is, when it’s for, whether to heat it or not, as well as dietary information.
So, I put it all in the fridge and went back to the sofa.
Next morning I fished out the first dish -Breakfast – Crunchy granola with berry yoghurt.
Each meal is generous for one, just about enough for two, so we shared. The granola was superb; I’m not much of a fan usually. And the yoghurt was’creamy’, fresh and zingy.
Did I miss toast and marmite? No, actually this brekky did satisfy both of us and I did feel rather healthy and virtuous after.
Mid-morning, feeling a little low on energy and harassed by clients with copy amends – time to take onboard the Morning Snack – Rosemary butter bean hummus with carrots.
Yes, that worked. No mad sugar rush, but I felt able to tackle some household DIY in-between Zoom calls. Thanks to lockdown, the house is looking a lot better.
Lunch was mixed beans with smokey paprika, onion, tomatoes and garlic.
It looked very good on the plate, but didn’t look substantial – looks are deceptive. Once again it satisfied my hunger, even if it was all over in a flash.
The mid-afternoon slump came and rescue came in the shape of buckwheat pancakes with some excellent jam.
The flavour of the buckwheat made the pancakes more interesting than usual, and while I almost succumbed to getting some cream out of the fridge, I fought off the temptation. I did think the pancakes would have been better warmed up though.
And as evening drew in, a bottle of wine was opened, and the final meal de-boxed. A smoked tofu salad with grapes, spinach, lettuce, rice, radish and nuts. Possibly more.
This was very good too, a real mix of tastes and textures. It just needed a little moistening. Lime juice had been promised, but there was no trace of any in the box.
So what did I learn? Well that’s it’s very nice not to have to think about what to eat, just debox and enjoy.
I also learned that if you eat the right things, quantity is not needed. These meals actually had a little bit more than required for one person.
Did I feel better, yes and it wasn’t a placebo effect. I am sure had I gone for the whole week’s menu I would have lost weight.
I really enjoyed the meals overall. Take a look at the loveyourself.uk website and give yourself some food love.|
