A new type of coffee which contains high levels of naturally occurring polyphenol antioxidants has been launched in the UK by NESCAFÉ.
Made from a blend of roasted beans and unroasted green coffee beans, NESCAFÉ Green Blend has been specially created by their coffee experts to deliver on flavour and aroma, as well as health benefits. The health giving qualities in NESCAFÉ Green Blend are derived from the unroasted green coffee beans. The unroasted beans are, we are told, naturally rich in polyphenol antioxidants, which are also found in green tea and cocoa and can help protect the body’s cells from day to day damage.
Gary Williamson, Professor of Functional Food, School of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds and an expert in polyphenol science, was at the launch of this new coffee blend and explained the benefits that polyphenols have in our diet. He said that polyphenols are a complex class of naturally occurring components of fruits, vegetables, and beverages made from plants. He also said that many polyphenols are well absorbed by the body and research indicates that they help maintain the body’s defences against ageing processes. We were told that all coffee is rich in antioxidants.
We understand that NESCAFÉ make all of their coffee from 100% pure and natural coffee beans, much as we do at home with ground coffee, before processing it into the granules you find in their jars. WeI can say, having tasted it and as people who normally drink freshly brewed ground coffee that it does have a great flavour, with a good edge to it. This new product is now widely available on supermarket shelves and if the high levels of polyphenols in it will help you battle against the aging process, it has to be worth trying.
