Based on his personal experience converting a chicken run into a vegetable garden during lockdown, this ground-breaking guide features 80 brand new recipes (the first in quite a while) from John Burton-Race, growing calendars,’spade-loads’ of inspiration and a forward by JB-R’s great friend, Raymond Blanc OBE.

When lockdown was announced, chef John Burton-Race and son, Pip (15) wasted no time digging a vegetable garden out of a disused chicken run on their remote Devon farm.  

With the nearest shops miles away, long drives to buy groceries and queuing posed a particular problem.  John had been sent home in January from Vietnam (before we had even heard of Coronavirus in the UK) where he had been cooking at a beach resort for the season.

Like his peers in the hospitality industry, he suddenly found he had plenty of time on his hands. Four months later, and as well as a flourishing vegetable, fruit and herb garden, a brand-new book  has emerged, co-authored by father and son and designed to inspire others to’grow and cook your own food on a budget’.
