Islington JIJI, which blends Middle Eastern and Japanese flavours, has launched a new spring lunch menu in preparation for the warmer months.
JIJI is the creation of restaurateur, Janina Wolkow, founder of the multi-award-winning contemporary Japanese restaurant Sumosan which now has outposts worldwide. Her inspiration for JIJI has drawn on influences from the innovative capitals of Tel Aviv and Tokyo to create a truly unique combination of dishes. We reviewed earlier this year.
In Tel Aviv, chefs combine unusual flavours with creative flair favouring raw fish dishes, and clean, fresh flavours which led Janina to the conclusion that a combination of Japanese dishes alongside Israeli could really work.
Tucked away on Esther Anne Place, just off Islington’s bustling Upper Street, Jiji offers a casual yet refined space, where colourful seating and eclectic artwork is intermixed with bold lighting to create a warm and welcoming space. An open kitchen borders the back of the restaurant where counter dining is available so you can watch the chefs at work.
JIJI’s New Spring lunch Menu – 2023
JIJI’s new spring flavours include a selection of starters including the succulent Chicken Kabob, zingy Wasabi Prawns and crispy Vegetable Tempura.
For a perfectly portioned meal for one, try one of JIJI’s three new Bento Box flavours. Choose from fresh Black Cod or Grilled Prawn, both served with Salmon Avocado Sushi Rolls and Mini Fish Tacos, or the marinated Miso Tofu, served with Vegetarian Sushi Rolls and Mini Tacos. All Bento Boxes are additionally served with Seaweed Salad and Aubergine Chips.
JIJI’s cocktails have all been designed to perfectly pair with the Middle Eastern and Japanese flavours found across the menus. Try the Ukiyo Yuzu, a Japanese twist on a French 75, or the Passion for JIJI, one for all the Pornstar Martini lovers. JIJI also has a selection of mocktails, from the refreshing Elderflower Cooler to the Virgin Cranberry Mule.
Alternatively, choose from JIJI’s extensive selection of wines and traditional Japanese sake, including the new semi-sweet Mio Sparkling Sake, perfect as an accompaniment to dessert.
