Wonky fruit and veg box Oddbox has announced its first ever dining experience with in a partnership with The Spread Eagle pub in Hackney, London’s first fully vegan pub.
What makes this experience unique? The menu is grower led, meaning it’s crafted entirely from surplus and odd fruit and veg which have been rescued from going to waste from farms nationwide.
This season, Oddbox has rescued over 330 tonnes of carrots from growers, with a percentage rejected by retailers for being “too big”, and so at risk of going to waste. Fresh and deliciously odd, these carrots will become the star of the Odd Five Ways menu. Diners will taste just how versatile carrot can be as it features in every course, from the carrot-based cocktail aperitif, all the way through to a root vegetable twist on a classic carrot cake dessert.
For one week starting Wednesday 2nd February 2022, diners at The Spread Eagle will have the chance to experience the Oddbox ‘Odd Five Ways’ limited time menu; a five course set menu developed by Gina Hopkins, The Spread Eagle’s Executive Chef and Masterchef Professionals 2021 contestant.
To showcase just how delicious and versatile unwanted produce can be, carrots deemed ‘too big’ have been used as a key element across all five courses, making these humble vegetables the star of the show. From the carrot and ginger liqueur cocktail to the root veg twist on a classic dessert.
Interested diners can visit www.thespreadeaglelondon.co.uk and reserve their spot for lunch or dinner from Wednesday 2nd February to Tuesday 8th February (menu unavailable Sunday 6th February) See below for further information on the partnership.
