‘Kung hei fat choi’ might sound like it describes how you feel after a few too many spring rolls as you watch dragons dance their way through Chinatown, but it’s also the way to bid your celebrating compatriots’Happy New Year’ on 10th February.
To herald the arrival of the Chinese Year of the Snake, London’s Chinese Cricket Club are intent on ensuring no-one leaves the restaurant feeling remotely snake-hipped, though – gearing up for head chef Guanghao Wu’s’gastronomic extravaganza’.
The sizzling Sichuan feast kicks off with a Prosecco toast, well-suited to starters like soft shell crab and shredded chicken in sesame sauce. Then there’s the obligatory but always-scrumptious crispy aromatic duck to contend with.
Slithering on to mains, you’ll scoff jumbo prawns and noodles with a shrimp dressing, pork in lotus leaf and steamed sea bass. Pudding is lemon tart – refreshing both in taste and in its presence on a Chinese menu.
Chinese Cricket Club, 19 New Bridge Street, London, EC4V 6DB. The Chinese New Year menu is £55pp. For more information and to book, visit www.chinesecricketclub.com
