The Adam & Eve,  a pub tucked away in the back streets of Fitzrovia just off Oxford Street, has just been refurbished.

New interiors and an outdoors space make it the perfect place to enjoy an after-work cocktail.

And, unlike a lot of post-work watering holes, the food at The Adam & Eve has had a revamp too, serving British classics with little twists.

The small plates were certainly the star of this menu. Spiced chicken wings were generously glazed with a sticky, spicy sauce that clung to the wings as well as your fingers.

Lamb nuggets were an absolute revelation. Slow cooked, spiced lamb shredded and deep fried. Much better than the original chicken version. Dipped in a harissa fondue and I could have eaten these over and over again… definitely a firm favourite.

The mains consist of all the classic’pub grub’ dishes you would expect to find on a pub menu – sausage & mash, fish and chips adorned with mushy peas and tartar sauce, and steak and ale pie.

There is also an option for the vegans who still want the classics – banana blossom’Fish & Chips’, vegan tartar and mushy peas.

The Eve’s buttermilk chicken burger was fine, but not attention-grabbing. The batter was a little soggy, but the flavour and the seasoning good. The fries that were served on the side were thin, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle – just how you want them to be.

If you’re feeling like something a little lighter, the honeyed goats cheese, beetroot and walnut salad is a good choice with a healthy amount of creamy goats cheese over bitter chicory.

The only downside – the rest of the salad is all rocket. So, if you’re not a fan of rocket – like me – ask for an alternative.

On the day of our visit, the weather was hot so the wintery flavours of apple and quince crumble, or spiced fruit Bakewell weren’t calling to us.

The vegan chocolate brownie was a tempting choice and a tasty one too. The vegan coconut ice cream had an intense flavour that was almost like eating the inside of a Bounty Bar.

While there is a separate, slightly raised’dining room’ area, if you are in the pub on a popular day, it will be noisy.

Perfect if you want a drink with friends in a lively, energised atmosphere – not so great if you just want a nice dinner. However, if you’re looking for somewhere that combines the two, then The Adam & Eve is the place to be.
