Tucked away and above the Indian restaurant Lokhandwala and inspired by an infamous Mumbai gangster Vijay, the intimate venue and outdoor terrace will offer cocktail lovers a drinking den in the heart of Fitzrovia.

With dark walls, rich fabrics and opulent detail, Vijay’s Lounge & Bar provides a haven for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the streets below. The focus of the room is the impressively stocked bar, which is framed by an eye-catching bronze chandelier, while details such as oil paintings and a silver elephant, nod towards the venue’s Indian culture.

The twenty-five capacity room leads onto a hidden outdoor terrace, an ideal spot for alfresco drinking in the warm summer months ahead.

Vijay’s Bar & Lounge takes inspiration from the story of Lady Charlotte, one of the best-kept secret scandals that rocked Victorian British aristocracy. The tale goes back to the 1800’s of the Lokhandwala district of Mumbai, where Lady Charlotte fell in love with the promiscuous outlaw Vijay.

He later left Charlotte with a broken heart and shattered dreams of marriage. She fled to London and centuries later became the inspiration behind the restaurant and bar.

The drinks menu comprises an extensive list of wines, cocktails and premium spirits – from high-quality champagnes to Japanese Whiskies ensuring there’s something to sate all tastes.

Each of the cocktails, all priced at £12, narrate the story of Lady Charlotte and Vijay. Floral syrups and Indian spices play a prominent role throughout the menu, with the likes of rose and lavender syrup featuring in the drinks, along with spices like fennel seed, star anise and fresh coriander.

Hungry guests looking for more than bar snacks can head downstairs to Lokhandwala and enjoy an extensive menu serving Indian-style tapas, combining traditional dishes along with British-Indian fusions.

The menu offers everything from their take on London’s old time favourite Masaledar Fish and Chips to a vegetarian’s delight Gujju Vaal Daal Chaat including favourites such as Celery Prawns and Lamb Chops.
