There’s a new modern Japanese pop-up in town and it’s running for just two evenings on Monday, 29th and Tuesday, 30th November.
Aman Lakhiani, Executive Chef and Co-founder of acclaimed yakitoriya, Junsei, on Marylebone’s Seymour Place, has teamed up with his friend and colleague, Ben Sumadiwiria, a graduate of the Yamato Ramen Noodle school in Japan, chef and YouTube sensation on a pop-up dedicated to two of Japan’s best-loved food exports: yakitori and ramen.
Born out of a shared desire to bring the timeless tastes and flavours of Japan to London, the pop-up showcases their shared respect for and in-depth understanding of authentic techniques and ingredients and takes diners on a journey of Japanese gastronomic discovery in a seven-course limited-edition Omakase menu.
Dishes are designed to surprise and delight with choices including freshly prepared Hamachi Crudo; fried Soft-shell Crab flavoured with miso, Game Yakitori and Ben’s showstopping spicy Chicken and Duck Tan Tan Ramen, a dish flavoured with a tori paitan broth and inspired by his time working with a ramen master at Amsterdam’s renowned Taka Zoku restaurant.
Ben Sumadiwiria comments “I am delighted to be collaborating with Aman to bring this exciting dining experience to Junsei. The dishes we will serve are a homage to the years Aman and I spent together eating some of the best ramen and yakitori in Tokyo and around the world. We’re very proud of the menu we’ve developed together and can’t wait for people to experience it.”
Aman Lakhiani adds, “If there is anything I know about Ben, it’s that his deep love for Japanese cooking is a perfect match for what we do at Junsei. The combination of a kaiseki-style menu, inspired by Japanese street food, is something that can only happen in London. The menu showcases Ben’s love of noodles and my passion for cooking over charcoal whilst perfectly reflecting Junsei’s zero-waste, seasonal ingredient philosophy.’’
The seven-course menu is £75pp, tickets are available on Eventbrite or contact Junsei on 020 7723 4058.
