Launching in Islington in mid-June 2016, Zia Lucia brings Londoners a new way to enjoy pizza. By combining a special selection of unique doughs, rare in the London pizza scene, with a flair for real Italian community style.
Zia Lucia’s unique variety of Italian 48-hour slow fermented doughs range from the traditional flour dough to an unusual vegetable charcoal black base, from a healthy wholemeal option to special dough made without gluten.
The menu at Zia Lucia will continuously evolve to include new experimental doughs.
Opening on Holloway Road in a burgeoning foodie pocket of Islington, Zia Lucia, which translates as ‘Auntie Lucia’ is run by a team of passionate Italians. Founders, friends and Holloway residents, Claudio Vescovo and Gianluca D’Angelo have created Zia Lucia with the help of family, friends and local figures.
Inspired and named after Gianluca’s Auntie Lucia: a warm, generous figure in her family and community in Rome, these values will be recreated in this neighbourhood pizzeria, which is entirely friend-funded. Priced from £7-£11, the wood-fired pizzas will feature fresh, classic Italian toppings, all available on the four types of dough. The menu also features white pizzas, with unusual toppings such as pecorino cheese, truffle honey, asparagus, spicy orange sauce and toasted almonds.
Alongside the pizzas, the menu features a selection of Italian style starters, salads and desserts, including an innovative and appetising pizza dessert. The drinks menu will focus on spritzes, negronis, bottled beers from Italy and locally brewed in London, and wine and prosecco sourced from small Italian producers back home.
