It’s all change at the Town Hall hotel in Bethnal Green this week as Matt Whiley’s cocktail bar Peg + Patriot and Lee Wescot’s restaurant Typing Room both gear up to open on May 16th.
The 40-cover Typing room takes over the former site of Nuno Mendes’ Viajante and is Lee Wescott’s (pictured) first solo venture, having previously worked with Tom Aikens and Jason Atherton (who is also backing Typing Room). Dishes on the modern European menu are set to include mackerel, passion fruit, burnt cucumber and dill; pigeon smoked in pine, salt bakes celeriac, lovage and hazelnut; and green tea, yoghurt and sesame.
Meanwhile at Peg + Patriot, Matt Whiley will be offering the same kind of creative cocktails that made The Talented Mr Fox at One Leicester Street such a success. Matt will be producing all his own house vodkas, liqueurs and vermouth and will even be distilling three different gins on site. Expect to find original creations such as the the Salt Beef Sazerac – salt beef beigal cognac/ absinthe / sugar and bitters – and Marmite Vodka Martini – P+P Marmite vodka served wet with house made dry vermouth.
