Long regarded as the drink of choice in medieval TV shows and movies, mead is making its way back – and will form the central ingredient for Runnymede’s two new cocktails, The Runny’Mead’ Martini and King John’s Dark and Stormy.
Both cocktails will be a playful nod to The Runnymede’s neighbour – the birthplace of modern democracy and where a peace treaty was signed over 800 years ago, Magna Carta.
The oldest alcohol on record, mead has historically been regarded as having’magical’ effects and drunk all around the world. The Runnymede’s newest cocktail additions are made using mead from London’s only meadery, Gosnells – The Runny’Mead’ Martini will feature a delicious mix of Gordon’s Gin, fresh lemon juice and honey syrup, whilst the King’s John Dark and Stormy, is made up of dark rum, fresh lime juice, Angostura bitter and ginger.
The cocktails will be available to enjoy at the riverside hotel for a month.
