A French bistro with an international twist, has opened its doors on Chelsea’s King’s Road, bringing a fresh take on traditional French cuisine to the local neighbourhood.
Some say the bistro died out in the late 20th century, as more and more cusines came to the UK the solid old bistro, with its vague echoes of Abigails Party, became a bit naff.
Well for many of us, a bistro done well is superior to any number of French fine dining establishments so a new one, in perhaps the bistro’s spritual home postcode, is welcome.
Francois Roldan (executive chef patron) and Jonathan Vercoutere (Co-patron) met in Dubai in 2013 and have been working together ever since. After spending 10 years in Dubai and having travelled the world, they settled in Chelsea, setting up their new modern French bistro.
They want their relaxed and friendly service style to ensure guests always feel at home, Jonathan and Francois say they like take the time to get to know each and every customer – setting them aside from many of their competitors on the King’s Road.
The a la carte menu features classic French dishes such as Saucisson served with cornichon (£5), Flamed beef carpaccio (£8) and Grandma’s coquillettes (£20) – a rich pasta dish served with Comté cheese, winter truffle and ham.
More adventurous, travel-inspired dishes include baby rooster which features Basquaise shashouka (£18), a creamy polenta served with fried Padron to give you a glimpse of the traditional yet modernised Basque cuisine, and Seabass ceviche (£9), with an Asian inspired slaw and dressing, served with radish, apple, sweet potato, yuzu and coconut.
Be-stro’s free-flowing brunch offering is £55 per person. A selection of starters and desserts for the table to share, chosen by chef, including a choice of main from the a la carte menu, as well as free-flowing red or white wine.
