Magenta, has opened in Kings Cross, inside the iconic Megaro Hotel, with a Northern Italian-inspired menu curated by Executive Head Chef Manuele Bazzoni, and an extensive wine list presenting the best vineyards across Italy.

And boy is it colourful.

The striking interior at Magenta has designed by British artist and designer, Henry Chebaane and apparently echoes the 19th century heritage of the building the industrial-age heritage and vibrancy of the contemporary artistic culture of Kings Cross and its immigrant Italian community.

The restaurant and bar has been transformed into a giant art installation within an indoor pergola of Victorian industrial architecture, designed with a colour palette of coal, steel and oak, furnished with brilliant magenta fabrics.

To add to the theatricality of the experience, thousands of pink and silver butterflies flutter overhead, to a cinematic soundtrack.

As well as the main restaurant, there is an outdoor terrace for al fresco dining and drinking, and two individually-designed and distinctive private dining rooms.

Chef Manuele Bazzoni has crafted a four-course A la carte menu based on favourite flavours from his native Northern Italy, and reflecting his 15 year culinary career in London, including time as Head Chef at Le Boudin Blanc, and Trinity, before he joined the Megaro Hotel four years ago.

Starting with Manuele’s unique recipe for charcoal flour bread, and using top quality British produce throughout, Antipasti include Crispy cannelloni of Dorset crab with bisque jelly & preserved lemon gel, or Roasted Veal sweetbread, fresh peas, Girolles with almond foam.

First courses include Potato & truffle Tortellini with mushrooms & Miso broth, or Scallops raviolo, monks beards w/ Vermouth & lavender sauce.

For the second course you could choose Fermented cauliflower steak, girolles, wild garlic, summer truffle with cocoa butter, or Turbot t-bone, razor clams, sea vegetables with dill scented broth.

Desserts include Pistachio cake & raspberry sorbet with Mascarpone & raspberry mousse, or Amalfi lemon curd & olive oil crumble & crispy meringue.

Magenta is open for dinner and lunch Tuesday to Saturday.  Prices for the A la carte menu are two courses for £32.00, three for £42.00 and four for £52.00.

There’s an express lunch menu available Tuesday to Saturday too at £22 per person for two courses and £25 for three courses with a complimentary soft drink.

The wine list has been selected by in-house Sommelier Alessandro Facciolo and offers intriguing wines from the most interesting wine growing regions in Italy, alongside Champagnes.

There’s an elegant cocktail list with signature creations including Pink Pantera – Rose wine, select liqueur, raspberry, vanilla & tonic, and Magenta A Fizz – Chamomile liqueur, Prosecco, Jasmine tea, lemon & grapes.
