Zaika Indian restaurant is launching a brand-new menu devised by Tamarind Collection Executive Chef Karunesh Khanna, one of London’s most celebrated Indian Chefs.
Zaika, which overlooks Kensington Park is set in a landmark historic setting on the former site of The London County Bank, London’s first high street bank.
Karunesh Khanna, Executive Group Head Chef at Tamarind Collection and previously Head Chef for thirteen years at Michelin-starred Amaya in Belgravia has created a stunning new menu at Zaika.
Whilst the offering at Tamarind is all about light and subtly spiced, refined Indian cooking, Zaika’s new range of dishes celebrate robust, hearty dishes.
Highlights from Karunesh’s new menu are: Raj Kachori, Wheat Puri filled with goodies and chutneys, Griddled Scottish Scallops, chilli-spiked pineapple broth, coconut and beetroot chutney and Baked Vegetable Samosa, handmade pastry filled with spicy and tangy potatoes, onion and green peas.
From the grill think, Wild Madagascan Tiger Prawn, green marination of coriander, mint and chilli, Tandoori Lamb Chop, steeped in vinegar with chilli, nutmeg and garam masala with a punchy Bengali mustard sauce or Roast Portobello Mushroom with lime and garlic filled with buttery ginger-spiced potatoes topped with golden crumbs, chilli oil.
Must order items include Hyderabadi Lamb Shank, simmered overnight in aromatic stock scented with smoky black cumin and finished with rose petals, Goan Prawn Curry cooked with fragrant spices, dried chilli and coconut milk in a garlic masala sharpened with tamarind and a Kerela Chicken Biryani, fragrant aged basmati rice slow cooked “Dum” with curry leaf and pepper chicken.
A side of either the Pineapple Curry, fresh pineapple chunks mellowed in coconut milk or Southern
Spiced Crispy Baby Potatoes, double-fried crunchy potatoes, with mustard seeds, curry leaf and pickling spices finish things off nicely.
For something sweet there are Chestnut Brulee with coffee foam and almond biscotti or Chocolate Rasmalai Tart,
Valhrona 70% dark chocolate tart with rasmalai and homemade rabri ice cream
The Victorian open plan room boasts original Gothic architectural features that have been cleverly elevated and subtly modernised with the additions of corniced ceilings, pale timber panelled walls, rich materials and warm
colours fused with decorative Indian patterns and design, bespoke chandeliers and both traditional and contemporary Indian artwork.
