Apostrophe, the boulangerie and patisserie group, jointly with Gallic Books have been hosting a competition, to celebrate the launch of Muriel Barbery’s book ‘The Gourmet’, between 28th May and 23rd July. Entrants to the competition are asked to submit their real life gourmet experience for the chance to win a special weekend for two in London.
In ‘The Gourmet’, Muriel Barbery, tells the tale of the torment brought to France’s greatest food critic on his death bed, where he tries to recall the greatest food he has ever tasted. Social class, philosophy, food and the meaning of life are all explored in Barbery’s novel, now available to buy in paperback.
Competition entrants are asked to submit, in no more than 500 words, a real life gourmet experience of their own. Apostrophe and Gallic Books will judge the winner based on originality and creativity of the work in relation to the theme. The winners will be announced on the 30th July. First prize will receive a one night stay in a Deluxe room at the Lancaster London hotel, a pair of tickets to see The 39 Steps at The Criterion in the West End, dinner for two at Pan-Asian restaurant Inamo in Soho and breakfast for two at Apostrophe. Two runners up will receive hampers filled with Apostrophe products. The winners and their stories will be published on the Apostrophe website.
With 16 sites across central London, Apostrophe focuses on quality and freshness, boasting that all their breads and pastries are baked daily on site. They also have a large selection of sandwiches, soups and salads are available to eat in or take away. In addition they serve a variety of hot and cold drinks, including fresh juices, loose leaf teas and Apostrophe’s own signature coffee. Daily newspapers are available to customers along with free Wi-Fi access.
